With Marvel’s Spider-Man introducing Miles Morales and Venom, it is possible that Insomniac may decide to add more Spider-people into the story. Marvel’s Spider-Man hasn’t introduced Gwen Stacy or Silk yet, who are two possible contenders to be featured in the sequel game. Along with those two, Ben Reilly and Spider-Woman could make an appearance in future installments. Another spider-person who could be added to the game is one who was already introduced in the game’s canon: Blood Spider.

The critically acclaimed Marvel’s Spider-Man has given fans a universe sprawling with endless possibilities. The first game developed a good basis for future installments, with Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales continuing the story. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is set to introduce villains like Venom, ominously appeared in end credits scenes for both games.

From Eddie Brock to the Blood Spider (introduced in the prequel novel Marvel’s Spider-Man: Hostile Takeover), there are many different members of the Spider-family who can be brought into the series’ story. The Spider-family has grown within the comics over the years, with popular heroes like Spider-Man 2099 and Superior Spider-Man joining the fray. While seeing these characters would be cool to see in Insomniac’s Spider-Man universe, it’s likely that the series will focus on building its own universe first before delving into the multiverse, making characters like Spider-Man 2099 being less likely to appear.

Spider-Gwen & Silk Might Appear In Marvel’s Spider-Man 2

Marvel’s Spider-Man introduced characters like Black Cat and Miles Morales into the scene, and its sequel has the potential to bring in one of the Spider-Family’s most influential heroes yet: Spider-Gwen. Although her story is mainly set in its own universe, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 can have her appear as either Gwen Stacy, or it could surprise fans with her swinging into the scene as Spider-Gwen. Gwen has not been seen in either of the games, so Insomniac has plenty of freedom to bring the web-slinger into the highly anticipated sequel.

Silk is another character that has not seen an on-screen adaptation yet. Marvel’s Spider-Man has told Peter’s story arguably better than even the comics. With how the story has been going so far, Silk would be a great addition to Insomniac’s Spider-verse. The Korean-American heroine’s alter-ego is known as Cindy Moon, and she has quite a connection with Peter Parker. Her abilities include organic web fluid, crawling up walls, and super strength and agility. Her story can easily be adapted into Insomniac’s Spider-verse and could introduce the character to a wider audience.

Ben Reilly May Already Be In Marvel’s Spider-Man Canon

Ben Reilly is a figure also known as the Scarlet Spider and is supposed to be the “perfect clone” of Peter Parker. Originally created to put an end to Peter, Ben Reilly becomes a new hero in the Spider-Family, eventually going on to refer to Peter as his own brother. His suit has been featured in Marvel’s Spider-Man, allowing players to don his homemade red sweat suit and blue hoodie to fight crime. Ben Reilly goes on a long and complex arc in the comics, traversing the United States in search of making his own identity for five years.

While Ben Reilly may not be introduced in this universe, a character with a similar origin story to his has already been introduced in the game’s canon. In a prequel novel to the first game, a homeless man named Michael Bingham was taken by Oscorp and experimented on to have the same abilities as Spider-Man. Norman Osborne, having a deep hatred for the hero, sent Bingham under the alias of “Blood Spider,” to go and commit horrific crimes in Spider-Man’s suit to give the web-slinger a bad name. The events of Blood Spider’s defeat directly lead up to the arrest of Kingpin, seen at the start of Marvel’s Spider-Man. Michael Bingham could eventually end up becoming an antihero and take on the name of Ben Reilly, becoming the Scarlet Spider. This would be a good way for the game to tie the book and the game together without complicating the story with too many Spider-people.

Spider-Woman & Eddie Brock Can Be Introduced In Marvel’s Spider-Man 2

Spider-Woman is also a likely candidate to be seen in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 as both a member of the Spider-Family and an agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. Also known as Jessica Drew, this version of Spider-Woman was accidentally exposed to uranium when she was young, causing her scientist parents to inject a regenerative spider serum in an attempt to heal her. After many tests and some time in a tank, Jessica Drew gained spider-powers and much more, including abilities like energy blasts and flight. Drew eventually goes on to become an Avenger. Considering how Marvel’s Avengers and Marvel’s Spider-Man aren’t connected, Spider-Woman could be used to build Insomniac’s own version of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes.

The last and most likely member of the Spider-family that may appear in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is Eddie Brock. Eddie is a coworker of Peter’s at the Daily Bugle who eventually goes on to become the Venom symbiote’s main host. Eddie Brock’s Venom has recently been depicted in films and other forms of media as a type of antihero, though he is mainly Spider-Man’s arch-nemesis. Eddie Brock is also shown as Peter’s ally in certain storylines and could be introduced as a way to separate the symbiote from its current host in the game’s canon: Harry Osborne. This can also bring in a third playable character into Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, letter players become Venom. This could even open up an entire spin-off game featuring the antihero similar to Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 has the potential to be one of the biggest superhero games of all time. Already introducing big names like Venom, the sequel to the critically acclaimed PlayStation exclusive could also introduce other characters like Spider-Gwen and Silk and even go on to set up spin-off games focusing on their stories. Insomniac’s Marvel universe is growing, with Marvel’s Wolverine also on the way, and it could grow even more as it grows its own Spider-verse. With a release date slated for 2023, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is set to be one of PlayStation’s biggest next-gen games and is anticipated by fans everywhere.
