While additional details since the announcement of Marvel’s Wolverine have been slim, Easter eggs in the teaser trailer suggest Tyger Tiger might be the main villain of the upcoming game. The short trailer provided by the developer, Insomniac Games, featured Logan sporting a plaid shirt and cowboy hat, drinking at a bar. As no release date has been announced for the game, further details beyond the brief clip may not come for a while.

Insomniac Games has recently published other Marvel games, including Marvel’s Spider-Man and Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales. The studio’s Wolverine reveal was coupled with the news it was developing Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, further solidifying its own Marvel games universe. Insomniac’s trailer didn’t explicitly state where the game takes place, but the teaser video signals that Marvel’s Wolverine may be set in Madripoor.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

In the teaser trailer, the first look at Logan is of his back while he’s facing the bar. A chalkboard hanging on the back of the bar suggests the adamantium-clawed hero is drinking at the Princess Bar. The drinking establishment is located in the Lowtown district of Madripoor, which crime lord Jessán Hoan, also known as Tyger Tiger, partly owns.

Tyger Tiger & Wolverine’s Complicated History Could Headline Insomniac’s Game

In the comics, Wolverine goes to Madripoor and uses the name Patch to keep his identity a secret after the X-Men are presumed dead. Without the oversight of the X-Men, Logan exhibited violent behavior toward Madripoor’s criminals, which could explain why there’s so many unconscious bodies at the beginning of the trailer. The short trailer for Marvel’s Wolverine hints at Logan’s Patch persona with an eyepatch lying on the bar. The Princess Bar appears in Logan’s Patch storyline, where the hidden hero and Tiger clashed.

Hoan was kidnapped by the Reavers when they robbed her family’s bank and were brainwashed by Pretty Boy in an attempt to have her join their criminal organization. After being rescued by the X-Men, she returned to her family where she was shunned for surviving the attack that killed several other family members. Finding out that Roche was behind the assault on her family’s bank, Hoan moved to Madripoor, adopted the moniker of Tyger Tiger, and got involved in the surrounding criminal activity.

While in the comics, Logan and Tiger worked together to install her as Madripoor’s crime lord, Insomniac Games could simplify things and keep Hoan a villain. A Wolverine and Tiger fight could make Wolverine‘s boss fights better than Spider-Man‘s, especially if coupled with appearances from other iconic villains. The studio might also make Hoan the main villain of this first installment, saving her a redemption arc in any sequels that may come.

Logan and Hoan’s complicated history in the comics and the criminal setting of Madripoor sets Marvel’s Wolverine up to provide a different gaming experience than other recent Marvel games. Establishing Tyger Tiger as the main antagonist, with the potential to move her into hero territory in subsequent entries, would be a way to add real emotion and character development into the game. Fans will have to wait and speculate for now until more details are announced as development progresses.
