Masked Dancer: Who is Sloth? (Hint: It’s Not Matthew Morrison)

Sloth on The Masked Dancer appeared to be trying to keep his dancing skills under wraps, just like he was trying to hide his identity. We’ve managed to use the clues to uncover which professional dancer is hiding in the Sloth costume.

During his first appearance on The Masked Dancer during week two, Sloth rocked out to “What I Like About You” by the Romantics. At first, it appeared as if he might be a novice. Then, he surprised fans and judges during his number by slowly uncovering some serious skills. His word up clue was “Broadway” and a Broadway star would likely have dance training. This, combined with a  toothpaste tube with Glee showing, led many to go straight to Matthew Morrison. There were even Dr. clues that many linked to his appearances on Grey’s Anatomy and the iconic Dr. Seuss character, TheGrinch. We think that there is another explanation for the Glee clue and that Sloth is known more for his dancing than his acting.

With Sloth being one of the last Masked Dancers we’ve uncovered, we were left looking to complete the clue totals for the entire cast. While Sloth gave Broadway as a clue, we have already predicted Exotic Bird to be American Idol star Jordin Sparks, who accounts for two of the three Broadway appearances for the whole cast. This leaves someone with only one Broadway show under their belt for Sloth. As it was clear that Sloth was a trained dancer, he seemed the perfect fit for the 10 World Dancing Titles held by the cast. It turns out that there is someone who has both 10 World Dancing Titles and has appeared once on Broadway. We think Sloth is Dancing With the Stars pro Maksim Chmerkovskiy.

The 40-year-old dance pro does fit those two remaining cast clues perfectly, and also fits with the Sloth-specific clues. While the toothpaste tube that was shown had Glee on the label, the brand name on the tube was Dentist Whitening Tooth System, which has the initials “DWTS,” just like the show he is famous for, which is Dancing With the Stars. The Glee clue is just one of many clues linking to his various celebrity partners on the show, including Glee star Heather Morris. There was a bug in amber for his partner Amber Rose, as well as a lab coat with the letters D.R. for his partner, Denise Richards. Another clue was a red Solo brand cup, which represents his Olympic athlete partner, Hope Solo.

Sloth spoke of an accident and having to work hard. When Chmerkovskiy was younger, he had a serious injury caused by a skiing accident that required a titanium rod in his right leg. The injury left doctors wondering if he would have a future as a dancer. This could explain the overall theme of the clue package as well. The Ukraine-born dancer is 6’2″, which fits with the fact that Sloth appears to be about the same height as host Craig Robinson, who is also 6’2″. During his word-up clue, many heard a slight accent, which also fits with this prediction. We can expect more confirmation in tonight’s clue package, but its safe to say that Sloth is Maksim Chmerkovskiy
