With Nick Cannon testing positive for COVID-19, he has been forced to miss the first few episodes of season five of The Masked Singer. To replace him, actress Niecy Nash has been tapped as the guest host. Here’s everything we know about the show’s new star.

As Nick Cannon quarantines while getting back in good health, Nash has stepped in to take his spot. Panelists Jenny McCarthy Wahlberg, Nicole Scherzinger, Ken Jeong, and Robin Thicke are all set to return to the show, which began filming last week. Fox viewers might recognize Nash, as she recently appeared on the show’s spin-off series I Can See Your Voice, hosted by Jeong, and served as a guest panelist on season four of The Masked Singer. Additionally, she has had roles on a number of series on Fox, including Scream Queens, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, and The Mindy Project. During the early days of her rising career, she appeared on the network’s older shows, including The Bernie Mac Show, and the 90s hit series, Party of Five. She has even lent her voice to a character on the beloved cartoon comedy Family Guy.

Comedy Central fans remember Nash’s days as a star on Reno 911!, as well as the 2007 movie and recent revival show, Variety reported. Being no stranger to the screen and spotlight, and having a resume that boasts of her comedic chops, Nash is more than qualified to fill Nick Cannon’s shoes on The Masked Singer. Her work on-screen has helped her secure a number of Emmy nominations and an NAACP Image Award for her role in the Netflix limited series, When They See Us. The variety in her roles highlights her range as an actress. Going from comedy to drama in the blink of an eye has kept the Palmdale, CA native a busy lady in Hollywood.

In August 2020, Nash married her wife, Jessica Betts, in an intimate outdoor ceremony. “Mrs. Carol Denise Betts 💍 @jessicabettsmusic #LoveWins🌈,” she captioned a beautiful photo from her nuptials. Her two previous marriages were to Jay Tucker and Don Nash, with whom she welcomed her two daughters, Dia Nash and Donielle Nash. While speaking to People about her third marriage to Jessica, she explained how she was never “suppressing” her sexuality throughout her life. “I love who I love. At one point in my life, I married twice and I love those people, And today I love this person,” she shared.

According to the TV star, she’s living life “on my own terms and my own way.” Fans are excited for her to bring some new energy to The Masked Singer as star-studded contestants hide their identities while crooning out some of our favorite classic hits.
