Season five of The Masked Singer introduced wildcards in a new twist, and Orca was the first wildcard to take the stage. Orca has had fans guessing about their identity, but one clue may have been too specific and given away the first wildcard’s identity. Orca wowed fans and succeeded in garnering enough votes to win his way onto the show and send home one of the season’s original group A members, Raccoon. Raccoon was revealed to be prolific actor Danny Trejo. While neither Raccoon’s departure nor identity was a surprise to fans, the first wildcard was.

The wildcard joins during a special round where they compete with the existing contestants. Prior to this, fans get no information on the wildcards, so even their costumes are a surprise. They have a clue package, just like the other singers they are hoping to join that night, so fans quickly get to guessing. The clue packages have varied greatly over the seasons. Sometimes they are full of red herrings or vague clues, but occasionally they have a clue so specific it qualifies as a spoiler. This was the case with Crocodile, who was revealed to be Backstreet Boy Nick Carter. We exposed that a story told by Crocodile was a direct match for one from Carter’s autobiography.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

This may have happened again this season when Orca told a very specific story of putting audition tapes in pizza boxes in our Orca article. Fans immediately took to the internet trying to find out which celebrity tried this tactic. The first name that came up was actor Rami Malek. But the rest of the clues didn’t line up with the Mr. Robot star, and fans didn’t believe Orca’s voice sounded like his. The other issue with this was that at 5’7″ Malek would likely stand at about the same height as Niecy Nash in heels. Orca, though, towered over Nash, appearing to be over 6 feet tall. In addition, fans of Malek didn’t see the serious actor doing reality TV.

This dead end didn’t stop the hunt. More digging revealed a pizza box story that fits a much more likely candidate. Director McG has told a story about how he helped his best friend’s band get a record deal. He said he helped the band put together their first music video, which they snuck into a pizza box and sent to the head of a record company. It resulted in the band getting a record deal. Who were the band and the best friend? McG’s best friend was Mark McGrath, lead singer of the band Sugar Ray. A rocker who has done plenty of reality TV and happens to be over 6 feet tall seems to be a great candidate for Orca.

If those factors and that perfect story match aren’t enough to convince you McGrath is Orca, there are a whole slew of other clue matches we made in our prediction article identifying McGrath back in March. That 1313 clue fits his initials, as M is the 13th letter of the alphabet. That pumpkin pizza clue was for his appearance in a Smashing Pumpkin video. The lemon pizza clue was for the band’s album Lemonade. The orange pizza hinted at McGrath’s childhood in Orange County. The hawk points to McGrath constantly being mistaken for actor Ethan Hawke. The bowl of candy pointed to his famously banned risque Candies ad. The list goes on and on. There is no doubt Orca is Mark McGrath.

In addition to this story spoiler and Crocodile’s, last season a very personal story led us to Gabby Douglas’s identity as Cotton Candy quickly as well. It seems the personal stories might be too easily identifiable and are proving consistent spoilers for the anonymous singers’ identities. That said, it is fun when you make that solid connection clue, so we hope this doesn’t deter The Masked Singer from telling those personal stories, which also help fans connect with the celebrities, even though they can’t see them. For now, we’ll take the win with Orca.

The Masked Singer airs Wednesdays at 8 pm ET on Fox.
