Mass Effect returned in a big way this year. On May 14th, Mass Effect Legendary Edition released on console and PC, giving players the opportunity to relive the journey of Commander Shepard and his motley team of peculiar specialists. Humanity is still new to the galaxy; evolutionary wise and in technology. Commander Shepard, is one of the first human beings offered a special seat among the Specters, an elite ‘team’ of operatives serving directly beneath the council at the Citadel. Players will follow Shepard’s journey, balancing between being a Paragon or a Renegade, and pursuing the truth about the Prothean race and the Reapers.

Mass Effect 2 begins with Shepard as a “dead-man” walking, literally. After the Normandy experiences a fatal crash at the beginning of the game, Shepard’s body is recovered from the remains. Using technology way beyond normal ‘human’ means, an organization named Cerberus brings Commander Shepard back from the dead. One of Cerberus’ key figures, Miranda, joins Shepard as something of a ‘Chaperone’; a guide and adviser for almost every move Shepard makes while reporting back to her superior and head of the Cerberus organization, The Illusive Man. Miranda is fiercely loyal and disciplined but often sports a relaxed and ‘sensual’ demeanor over time. This guide will provide players the information necessary for earning her loyalty.

How to Make Miranda Loyal in Mass Effect 2

Loyalty in Mass Effect 2, serves three specific purposes. The first rewards the player with an extra skill in Miranda’s arsenal to better dominate the flow of battle, and a new outfit. The extra skill is the biotic ability ‘Slam’. This move surrounds an enemy in a biotic field that picks them up, and hurtles them toward the ground with ridiculous force. Past a certain size, however, the ability won’t really have much effect. Larger enemies often resist the effect of being lifted up so, unfortunately, “the bigger they are, the harder they fall” does not apply here.

The second benefit, allows the player to pursue a more intimate relationship. Special conversation options will open up during dialogues with Miranda, so be sure to talk to her often and increase her affection toward Shepard. Frequently choosing the paramour responses will result in a decision to indulge in a romantic relationship, often posed in a variety of ways among Shepard’s companions among the Normandy. The third and last boon from earning Miranda’s Loyalty is increasing, if not guaranteeing her survival during the final mission.

To access Miranda’s loyalty mission, keep playing the game’s main or location-specific missions. Specific as in they’re named after the mission’s location. Finish the mission “Horizon” and Miranda’s Loyalty mission “The Prodiogal” will become available. Locate Miranda in the Normandy and speak to her about a missive she received stating that her sister Oriana, is under pursuit by mercenaries hired by none other than Miranda’s own father. Wanting to capitalize on her exceptional abilities for selfish purposes, Miranda whisked Oriana away so she could live a normal life. Now, all her actions were coming undone, and she needs Shepard’s help in securing Oriana’s safety once again. If players are looking to Romance Miranda, be sure to align with her decisions and choose Paragon choices often. After successfully saving Oriana and returning to the Normandy, players will have obtained Miranda’s loyalty.

Mass Effect is available on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC.
