Though the first game in the Mass Effect trilogy is already massive with many different missions to keep players occupied, it also includes one DLC mission called Bring Down the Sky. Bring Down the Sky was the first DLC ever released for the original Mass Effect back in 2008. The game had a second DLC called Pinnacle Station, but the code corruption prevented this DLC from being included in the remastered Mass Effect Legendary Edition. Players can still experience Bring Down the Sky, however, and it is a good way to get more resources, credits, and XP ahead of the endgame. In Mass Effect: Bring Down the Sky, Shepard must prevent hijacked Asteroid X57 from completing its collision course with the human colony Terra Nova.

Players have the opportunity to start Bring Down the Sky at any point during the main Mass Effect campaign. Though some of the scientists on the asteroid mention a time limit of about four hours, the mission does not need to be completed all at once. Here’s how to start Bring Down the Sky in Mass Effect Legendary Edition.

How To Begin The Bring Down the Sky DLC In Mass Effect Legendary Edition

To begin Mass Effect: Bring Down the Sky, Shepard will need to leave the Citadel after becoming a Specter. Any time after this point, Asteroid X57 will be highlighted on the Galaxy Map. Beginning this DLC works much the same as other planetary explorations, with Shepard and their squad landing on Asteroid X57 via the Mako and unlocking missions and Area Map markers as they explore.

Asteroid X57 is located in the Asgard system in the Exodus Cluster. Shepard must land here to receive the cutscene that starts the DLC. The main mission, X57: Bring Down the Sky, unlocks right away. The other assignments won’t appear until Shepard does some exploring, speaks to the scientists, and starts disabling the three thrusters sending the Asteroid toward Terra Nova.

It is possible to leave Asteroid X57 and return to the Normandy, or even travel to the Citadel, any time Shepard is outdoors, especially while driving in the Mako. They can change their squad as often as they want and even leave the Exodus Cluster entirely without penalty, despite NPC implications of a time limit. There are many Grenades, especially around the batarian base, so players can also return to X57 to get more Grenades while completing and after they have completed Bring Down the Sky.

It is important to note that it is not possible to begin Mass Effect: Bring Down the Sky after starting Ilos: Find the Conduit, as there is no time between that mission and the endgame. Some players prefer to complete this quest before Feros or Virmire, while others save it until they have stolen the Normandy, before they fly to Ilos. One of the rewards for completing the mission is also rare or valuable gear corresponding to Shepard’s level. Because of this, it can be beneficial to wait to start Bring Down the Sky until Shepard has reached level 30 (or level 50 in Classic Mode) so they can get one of the most valuable items in Mass Effect.

Mass Effect: Legendary Edition is available for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
