Set video from Matrix 4 shows the movie’s harrowing Neo and Trinity building leap being filmed for real. The original Matrix trilogy wrapped up way back in 2003 with Matrix Revolutions and for years there were no indications that another follow-up would ever be made. Which is why everyone was so shocked when a fourth Matrix film was suddenly announced.

Indeed The Matrix Resurrections is aptly named as it has resurrected a film series that few believed would ever be brought back from the dead. Of course the fourth Matrix film puts new twists on the series’ reality while introducing new characters, but its core is the relationship between Keanu Reeves’ Neo and Carrie-Ann Moss’ Trinity. The reunion of Neo and Trinity naturally leads to danger, including a moment teased in Matrix: Resurrections trailers where the characters are forced to leap off a high building, leaving their fates quite literally up in the air.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

As it turns out the building leap scene was quite an experience for Reeves and Moss, who really jumped off a San Francisco skyscraper in order to achieve the necessary shots. In fact according to Reeves he jumped from the building 19 or 20 times in order to get the footage. Now thanks to Twitter account @keanyssance there’s a new angle on that Neo and Trinity leap, one showing how the harrowing stunt was actually pulled off. See the video in the space below:

Reeves of course is well-known for performing many of his own stunts in action films like the John Wick series, but even for a veteran of such films, jumping from a tall building must be a heart-pounding experience. Indeed in a recent interview Reeves characterized the building leap as the craziest thing he got to do while shooting the newest Matrix film. As for why the decision was made to shoot the leap for real rather than do it against a green screen, Reeves mentioned the need for natural light in the scene and also pointed out “It’s The Matrix.”

Indeed fans of The Matrix have come to expect a certain level of insane stunt work from the action-packed movie series and the fourth entry certainly doesn’t skimp on that aspect. The question now is whether the resurrected Matrix series will continue beyond the fourth film. Director Lana Wachowski has indicated that Matrix 4 doesn’t set up another sequel, but of course that doesn’t mean one won’t happen. It remains to be seen however if all the parties involved want to continue on with more exploration of the world of The Matrix, or if the fourth film turns out to be the series’ capper.
