A brand new poster for The Matrix Resurrections shows Neo and the rest of the main cast looking effortlessly cool. Resurrections, which is the 4th Matrix movie, was directed by Lana Wachowski, the first entry in the franchise she has directed without her sister Lilly, who declined to join the project. It comes nearly 2 decades after the previous entry The Matrix Revolutions, which premiered in 2003.

The Matrix Resurrections will follow Keanu Reeves returning as Neo, who has seemingly lost all his memories of the events of the original trilogy. Jada Pinket-Smith will also be back as Niobe while Carrie-Ann Moss returns as Trinity. Joining them are Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Jessica Henwick, Christina Ricci, Jonathan Groff, Neil Patrick Harris, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, and more. The film will debut in theaters and simultaneously on HBO Max (for the first month of release) on December 22, 2021.

On the official Twitter account for The Matrix Resurrections, they shared a brand new poster for the film. Surrounded by an atmosphere of the traditional green Matrix code, Neo and Trinity are back in their classic leather ensembles, joined by both new and returning characters from the franchise. The tagline reads “return to the source,” continuing the theme of coming full circle that has appeared throughout the film’s promotional material. Check out the full-size poster below.

Even though The Matrix Resurrections continually drops first-look images in addition to the many iterations of its teaser and the official trailer, the plot is still largely unknown. The poster doesn’t indicate anything fans wouldn’t already have assumed about the plot of the film, though it does show that the iconic imagery of the franchise is still as striking as ever. Even 22 years after the original film’s release, the slick and stylish look of the characters remains potent, and the one place where the image strays from the established aesthetic is perhaps its most intriguing.

In the Matrix Resurrections poster, everyone is clad in Matrix black except Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, who will be playing an alternate version of Morpheus, the character originally portrayed by Laurence Fishburne. Instead, he is wearing a brightly colored suit that is perhaps meant to reflect the different colored pills he offers to Neo in the original movie. Fishburne’s iteration of the character traditionally wore black leather in the original trilogy as well, so this new costume could be a clue as to the nature of the new Morpheus.
