The upcoming Disney+ series Ms. Marvel focuses on Kamala Kahn (Iman Vellani), a superhero fan with a lot of imagination, particularly when it comes to Captain Marvel. Kamala feels like she doesn’t fit in at school and sometimes even at home, that is until she gets superpowers like the heroes she’s looked up to.

We spoke with Ms. Marvel’s Matt Lintz at the premiere of Marvel’s Moon Knight about being part of the MCU and about his role as Ms. Marvel’s best friend.

How many Marvel carpets have you been to?

Matt Lintz: This will be my second. Hopefully, many more to come. But it’s amazing to see all these people out, all the fans. The fan reaction’s been great.

How does it feel to be here?

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

Matt Lintz: I mean, it’s surreal. I would’ve never thought I would be able to do this, this type of thing. Just walking here, coming up in the car, seeing all these amazing fans, cosplaying these amazing characters. I don’t even know. I’m at a loss for words. It really is. I’m just blessed.

Can you walk me through getting the call? “You’re in. You’re joining the Marvel Universe.”

Matt Lintz: Oh, I have it for you. So basically what happened was, I went through the audition process, was done with that, and actually, I was taking a nap. I was laying down. I know exactly how I was because it was just insane. I was laying down, and my phone starts ringing, and I almost didn’t answer it. I didn’t even check who it was. I just picked it up. I was like, “Hello.” It was my team. He was like, “Hey, Matt, guess what?” I was like, “What?” “You’re in Ms. Marvel,” and I just lost it. To be a part of such a project like that, Ms. Marvel, it’s something so new and refreshing that fans of Marvel haven’t seen yet on [a] live-action screen is just something amazing.

I love that about all the shows we’re getting. They all kind of have different themes, different tones. How would you describe Ms. Marvel? The trailer was so fun.

Matt Lintz: I would just say it’s new. It’s refreshing. Honestly, it’s just a younger take in Kamala Khan traversing through high school, becoming a superhero. No one’s seen that. I think it’s just something so good, and I think the fans are going to love it.

I’m so excited. The best thing about these premieres is everyone comes out to support. Who are you really hoping to meet from the MCU? Who haven’t you met yet?

Matt Lintz: I mean, I want to meet so many people. I met Robert, Robert Downey, Jr., Tom, I met a bunch of his people.

That’s big.

Matt Lintz: Yeah, I know. I want to meet a lot of these people. I want to talk to them, get their insight and stuff. I’m just a huge fan. I’ve been following Marvel since it first came out. Ironman I, all those movies. I’ve been a fan pretty much my entire life, so I want to meet as many as I can.

Oh, you’re like Kamala Khan.

Matt Lintz: Exactly. Exactly, yes.

Now, tell me about your character. You’re playing…

Matt Lintz: I’m playing Bruno Carrelli. So I’m playing the best friend of Kamala Khan, aka Ms. Marvel. He’s the tech whiz. He’s a sidekick. You could say he’s the Ned to the Peter Parker, Spiderman. I don’t know, and I think his relationship with Kamala is something that people are going to watch and want to see. He helps out in a lot of ways, but that’s all I’ll say about that.

I won’t get you in trouble, I promise. Congratulations. I look forward to talking to you for Ms. Marvel.

Of course. It’s so nice to meet you.
