It’s not your basic police procedural. On the air since 2003, this series follows a team of special agents from the Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS) as they solve crimes for the U.S. Navy as well as the Marine Corps.

The show, of which star Mark Harmon is an executive producer, is the first in this successful franchise which includes NCIS: New Orleans starring Scott Bakula and NCIS: Los Angeles with LL Cool J and Chris O’Donnell. It is one of the longest-running scripted shows on primetime television and consistently a top contender as most-watched series, no doubt for the interesting and relatable cast of characters.

10 ISTJ: Leroy Jethro Gibbs

This type will not rest until everything is set straight and the world is completed. They will work at a steady pace to accomplish their goals. They are reserved, practical, and demand order. There is a great emphasis on structure and laws.

The man, the myth, the death glare. Mark Harmon’s character, a former US Marine Scout Sniper whose wife and daughter were murdered, rose through the ranks and is the Special Agent in Charge of the Major Case Response Team and a hands-on leader.

9 ENTJ: Donald “Ducky” Mallard

The characteristics of this type are of a highly rational person who excels at taking charge and focuses on efficiently solving problems. They are good decision-makers, strong communicators, and self-assured.

David McCallum’s characters silly nickname takes the edge off his uber-serious demeanor. He’s Gibb’s longtime pal and carried on one-sided conversations with the dead bodies he autopsied. He recently retired and assumed the duties of NCIS Historian. He’s avuncular and polite, but do not count him out as a pushover. He speaks softly but carries a big stick.

8 INFJ: Timothy McGee

These people are quite good at expressing themselves and very attuned to the emotions of others. They choose careers that offer creativity and also do work that can make meaningful changes in the world, usually because they are high achievers who excel academically.

Sean Murray’s tech genius and investigator, he’s also written novels using his co-workers as characters much to their chagrin. He’s a nerd, but one with gun, combat, tracking skills. He may be sweet, but mess with him and he will find you.

7 ENTP: Jimmy Palmer

Innovative, clever, and expressive, this type has the gift of gab and likes to engage others in conversation. They’re curious and focused, absorb new info instantaneously, and arrive quickly at conclusions. Usually laid-back and easy to get along, they can often get wrapped up in their work. Not big on emotions, they can come off as insensitive.

Brian Dietzen’s recently promoted Chief ME is Ducky’s protege and always eager to use his knowledge to help the team, but lacks confidence and is socially awkward almost always saying the wrong thing. Forget about keeping a secret.

6 INTJ: Ellie Bishop

Self-confident and hard-working, this personality is analytical as well as creative. He/she looks at the big picture, likes to feel in control of their world, and prefers to make plans well in advance.

This describes Emily Wickersham’s NSA analyst who joined the team as temp help then saved the day on a high-level case causing Gibbs to keep her around. Pretty and perky, she’s got three older brothers, yea, pretend she can be intimidated. She likes to feel at home wherever she is, and her planning skills help greatly in her work.

5 ESTJ: Leon Vance

This type is logical and take-charge, assertive, and focused on making sure that everything runs smoothly and especially according to the rules. They also expect others to uphold these same principles. They are strong leaders but can come off sometimes as rigid and critical.

Rocky Carroll is the Agency Director with a tough managerial style. So it goes without saying that he often gets into a glaring contest with Gibbs. Even though he has a gruff demeanor and can be a bit of a tyrant, he respects his team and has their back.

4 ISTP: Nick Torres

Fiercely independent, this type loves action, being hands-on and free. Thrill-seekers by nature, and when a problem arises they want to implement a solution–now. A cool head in a crisis.

Wilmer Valderrama’s character came to NCIS as an agent from doing deep undercover work in a biker gang. He still rides. He’s a manly man with a gentle side. Protecting people, especially kids, is his thing. He likes to be out in the field, not in the office with paperwork and computers.

3 ISFJ: Jacqueline “Jack” Sloane

They are keen observers of other people and great at remembering details. They prefer concrete facts over abstract theories and value learning for its practical applications that solve real-world problems. They are firmly grounded in reality and very caring of others.

Maria Bello portrays the agency’s Senior Special Agent and Operational Psychologist (that’s a mouthful.) She’s a former US Army Lieutenant and prisoner of war. She is the team’s profiler and shoulder to lean on. Warm and caring stops when her buttons are pushed.

2 INTP: Kasie Hines

Reserved and logical, this type values intellect over emotion. Introverts, they have a rich inner world and when they do socialize, it’s with a small group of people whom they connect with over common internets. They’re the ones who think “outside the box.”

Diona Reasonover’s character is the Forensic Specialist (and replacement for quirky Abby Sciuto played by Pauley Perrette) and another Ducky protege who proves herself highly valuable. Geeky, brainy, and nerdy, she is also adorable and helpful. When you have a question, she will provide the answer.

1 ESTP: Ziva David

Don’t try to pin this type down. They like to be where the action is and improvise. They like straightforward info and tend to leap before they look, which they don’t see as reckless, more like quick to act. They can get bored easily.

Her looks aren’t the only thing that kill. Cote de Pablo’s Ziva is a Special Agent who is ex-Mossad. A bit of an ice queen, she’s not afraid to get her hands dirty. She’s actually not afraid of anything. She’s loyal and has a daredevil quality. Her lack of understanding of American pop culture is a running joke.
