MBTI: Which Ryan Reynolds Movie Character Are You?

Ryan Reynolds has blessed our screens for years, with his looks, personality, and wit. With over a decade of playing different roles, including superheroes, hopeless romantics, bad boys, and men down in their luck, we can’t help but run to the theaters every time he’s in a movie.

As a talented actor, Reynolds has taken different personas, really immersing himself into his roles and bringing his character to life. 10 Deadpool – Commander (ENTJ)

Arguably one of Reynolds’ best roles, it seems like he was born to play the Marc with a mouth. Deadpool is a very unconventional hero, not really in it to save people or help those around him, simply just taking down bad guys because that’s what he’s good at and even breaking the fourth wall to talk to the viewers. He’s a violent and creative anti-hero, often tangling with the X-men due to his gruesome view of justice.

Although he’s not a conventional ENTJ, Deadpool most closely relates to this personality type because he’s charismatic and confident in his skills and goals. Although he’s not the nicest guy, he’s still gotten heroes to follow him and help him with his goals and has saved the world because of it. We’ve also seen a drive and determination to finish the job that we’d only ever see in an ENTJ.

9 Green Lantern – The Campaigner (ENFP)

Although this wasn’t the most well-received movie of Reynolds’ career, it wasn’t because of him. He took on the role of Hal Jordan aka the Green Lantern. As DC comic fans know Hal is a special character. He’s brash, cocky, and very confident in his skills even before he gets his powers. Hal is notorious for playing by his own rules and not being confined to the military or anybody’s schedule.

ENFPs are very much of the same, driven and intuitive, only striving to meet personal goals and avoiding any cookie-cutter people or duties. They are the world as their playground to dominate and no one can stand in their way.

8 The Proposal – Mediator (INFP)

Although most of Ryan Reynolds’ roles are in action movies, he has been known for playing characters in romcoms. In The Proposal, he plays an executive assistant to a well-known editor with an iron fist (played by Sandra Bullock). In an attempt to avoid being deported to Canada, Bullock concocts a plan to convince her bosses and immigration that she would be marrying Ryan Reynolds who reluctantly agrees due to the blackmail and promise of a promotion.

We see Reynolds at his most lovable here. He’s charismatic, quirky, and a family man. He sees an opportunity to better his complicated situation and capitalizes, much like an INFP. Mediators are creative and open-minded. He lets Bullock play her game to help her and even though he could get in trouble he still decides to help.

7 Definitely, Maybe – The Advocate (INFJ)

Staying on the romcoms, in the movie Reynolds plays a young father who is in the middle of a divorce with his wife of several years. His young daughter curiously asks about his life before his mother and he turns it into a game, telling the story of three women and changing their names for the daughter to guess who her mother is.

The plot of the movie alone shows his creativity and his soft spot for love. Much like an INFJ, he’s creative, caring, and they take their romance very seriously. INFJs are also perfectionists, being very picky about the ones they love, which Reynolds clearly shows in his pursuit of three women.

6 Turbo – Adventurer (ISFP)

Turbo is an animated Dreamworks movie where Ryan Reynolds voices the titular character Turbo. Although his life is meant to be slow-paced, Turbo wants to be the fastest racer of all time. His dreams and aspirations are shunned by this around him as it’s an unconventional way of living a life as a snail. When he is doused with chemicals, he gets his wish, having the ability to move at fast speeds.

Turbo shoots for the stars and although his dreams seem unattainable, he works hard to achieve them, like an ISFP. Adventurers are passionate, imaginative, and fiercely independent, often doing things on their own.

5 The Hitman’s Bodyguard – Architect (INTJ)

Filled with star power, it’s easy to get overshadowed. Reynolds plays a second class bodyguard for hire, eager to prove himself after a mishap left his reputation in shambles. His situation gets worse when he is assigned to protect a mortal enemy and get him from one destination to another. In typical action movie fashion, it doesn’t exactly go as planned  and they embark on a dangerous journey.

Reynolds is eager to prove himself and very good at his job. He’s very self-confident yet arrogant and overly critical, refusing to let his rivalry go. All signs of an INTJ. Like Reynolds, Architects are very strategic thinkers and have a lot of different skills, naming them Jack of all trades. We see this in the movie as he excels on several aspects of protecting and fighting.

4 Change up – Entertainer (ESFP)

Change up stars two friends (Ryan Reynolds and Jason Bateman) who live completely different lives. Reynolds lives like a party boy, avoiding adult responsibilities and going benders on a weekly basis. Bateman, the complete opposite. When they switch places, they embark on a journey and literally walk in each other’s shoes.

For most of the movie Reynolds is an entertainer because he hates living a normal life, his charisma attracts everybody and he loves the life of the party. Like a true ESFP, he is unfocused and literally has to have a life-changing moment to see the error of his ways.

3 Life – Entrepreneur (ESTP)

Although we didn’t see much of Reynolds in this movie, as he was the first casualty of the movie, he lived long enough to leave an impression. In the few short minutes, we saw a sarcastic and research-heavy individual who is willing to risk his life to gain answers.

Like a true ESTP, Reynolds is direct, sociable, and perceptive. He always has a quick remark and often downplays his situation. Which made his death a powerful one in the movie.

2 The Captive – Logistician (ISTJ)

Perhaps the most serious role in this list, Ryan Reynolds plays the father of a girl who was abducted and presumed dead. After seven years, new evidence suggests his daughter is still alive and he jumps into action to rescue his daughter and repair his family.

He shows true ISTJ strengths as he is strong-willed, resourceful, and direct. He also displays weaknesses like blaming himself for things he can’t control and being stubborn, to the point where he tries to fight a detective accusing him of taking his daughter.

1 6 Underground – Executive (ESTJ)

The latest in Reynolds movies is a Netflix original with a great ratings. Reynolds plays one of six mercenaries who are erased form existence, free to cause chaos. As the leader of the operation he shows resourcefulness, leadership abilities and an ability to think quickly and execute plans while running a team.

As a natural leader with the mind to run a team, Reynolds shows the ability as an ESTJ, being an organized and true leader.
