The Black Widow movie releases later this year – and fans are eagerly anticipating what the character’s next MCU outing has to offer. We last saw Natasha Romanoff sacrifice herself in Avengers: Endgame but Disney’s decision to release her solo movie after her death has generated much intrigue and excitement.

Black Widow is one of the most popular Marvel characters, having appeared in seven movies to date. We now take a look at how those blockbusters fared among audiences on IMDb and which one sits top of the pile.

7 Iron Man 2: 7/10

Natasha Romanoff made her first MCU appearance way back in 2010’s Iron Man 2. Black Widow helps Tony Stark take down the dangerous Ivan Wanko, who is out for revenge on Tony Stark after the billionaire’s father had wiped out Wanko’s family – albeit by accident.

It’s not a movie too many fans like to rewatch but the fact it comes bottom of this list, with a respectable seven out of 10, is a testament to Marvel’s movie-making. It seems even the bad ones (and make no mistake about it, the blockbuster is far from perfect) seem to leave audiences satisfied enough.

6 Age of Ultron: 7.3/10

Age of Ultron was the second Avengers movie and, in the eyes of many, failed to live up to the same high standards as the first. Once again, however, it scored relatively highly among IMDB audiences – getting a very respectable 7.3.

Black Widow spends most of the movie battling her feelings for Bruce Banner, but she’s also a vital asset in the final showdown against Ultron. Her crucial intervention stops the cyborg from upgrading to Vision, allowing Vision to make his own choice and to side with the good guys instead. And Scarlet Johansson’s chemistry with Mark Ruffalo is superb, genuinely making you will for them to fall in love and settle down together.

5 Winter Soldier: 7.7/10

Captain America is forced to go to ground in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. And, in order to stop Hydra from taking down not just S.H.I.E.L.D. but many other people too, he enlists the help of both Black Widow and Sam Wilson.

Natasha Romanoff doesn’t let Cap down, helping him successfully lie low and then reign supreme over the crooked and corrupt Alexander Pierce at the very end of the movie. She’s at her sassy, strong best throughout the blockbuster and the way she tricks Pierce, just before his death, is one of the MCU’s biggest twists to date.

4 Civil War: 7.8/10

Civil War is basically an Avengers movie. Tony Stark and Captain America find their feud over the Sokovia Accords splitting the team up and the gang are forced to choose sides, before engaging in a superb battle all orchestrated by the slimy and sympathetic Helmut Zemo.

Black Widow shows her soft side in this one. While she’s as brilliant as ever on the battlefield, she helps Black Panther in the aftermath of his father’s death and also allows Cap to escape with Bucky Barnes. It’s her courage to do the right thing, no matter how difficult it is, that makes her such a strong female character. And this movie was another example of just how brilliant Natasha Romanoff is.

3 Avengers: 8/10

The first Avengers movie was always going to be difficult for Disney to pull off. But they somehow managed it and Black Widow is one of the main characters throughout the entirety of the blockbuster.

Her introduction is certainly iconic. She manages to defeat a whole room of enemies despite being tied to a chair and it’s the first movie where we see romantic undertones between both herself and Bruce Banner. Scarlet Johansson’s chemistry with Jeremy Renner’s Hawkeye is also superb, making you genuinely believe that the duo has known each other for many years and have a close rapport as a result.

2 Infinity War: 8.5/10

Has there been a more shocking comic book movie than Avengers: Infinity War? Perhaps not. Black Widow finds it hard to stand out in a movie where every single superhero known to man is pretty much involved. But the blockbuster itself is stunning and well-deserving of its big IMDB score.

Natasha Romanoff’s highlight in this one is when she, Okoye and Scarlet Witch all team up to take Proxima Midnight out of the action. It’s a scene that’s pure girl power – and we love it.

1 Endgame: 8.5/10

It appears IMDB couldn’t find anything to separate Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. While Black Widow didn’t have a standout role in the former, she’s given a prominent role for the sequel and makes the movie her own. Scarlet Johansson, in this one, gives her best performance to date.

You genuinely feel for Black Widow, whose devastation at what Thanos did in Infinity War is clear for all to see. You sympathize with the character and that makes her sacrifice towards the end, where she gives up her life so that Hawkeye can live and the Avengers can obtain the Soul Stone, that bit more impactful.
