Marvel Cinematic Universe managed to seamlessly integrate the most popular teenage superhero into its films. Both of Spidey’s MCU solo movies have been a success both critically and commercially even though they both have their own faults.

Fans have been disputing which of the two is superior: Vulture or Mysterio, Liz or MJ, staying home or going to Europe, trying to be an Avenger or trying to be the next Tony Stark. Here are 5 Reasons Why Homecoming Is Better Than Far From Home (& 5 Reasons Why Far From Home Is).

10 Homecoming: The Jokes

Both films are amazing comedies with the jokes being always on-point and even quite witty sometimes. That being said, Spider-Man: Homecoming is obviously the leader here.

The first film does have some dark moments, but most of the time, it’s fun and lighthearted. Spider-Man: Far From Home is also quite lighthearted, but it’s definitely a much darker film due to being set after the events of Avengers: Endgame.

9 Far From Home: Secondary Characters

Along with introducing Peter Parker in a more detailed way than Captain America: Civil War did, Homecoming also introduced a variety of characters from Peter’s life.

However, Far From Home is the film that pays more attention to these characters. We get a separate romantic storyline for Ned while Peter gets way more development with MJ than he did with Liz. Happy also plays a bigger role here and even Nick Fury and Maria Hill show up.

8 Homecoming: The Costume

Both solo Spider-Man movies in the Marvel Cinematic Universe featured more than just one suit – and all of these suits were great in their own unparalleled way.

That being said, the original Spidey suit that he first wore in Civil War and then in Homecoming is the one that seems to combine the best of all worlds. It has the classic Spider-Man look while also having the Stark tech integrated into it.

7 Far From Home: Love Interest

Liz was a great character and fit quite well for the role of Peter’s love interest. She was smart and sweet, but once the big twist was revealed, it was inevitable that she would not be with Peter anymore.

MJ, on the other hand, will definitely have a lasting presence in Peter’s life. Like Liz, she is very smart, but she also prefers being on her own and seems perfectly content with having a lot of time for herself instead of interacting with others. Besides, she figured out who Peter actually is!

6 Homecoming: The New Perspective

Far From Home sets out to continue building on the foundation that Homecoming has laid out. But Homecoming was special in some sense as it took a new perspective on the MCU.

This is the film that focuses on the “normal” people who have to live in a world populated by superheroes and experience the consequences of the battles between these superheroes and their enemies. Peter is also the first teenage superhero to appear in the franchise!

5 Far From Home: Locations

Though Peter does get to several different locations in the first film, it’s the second one that takes him and his classmates on an entire trip to Europe.

What’s also interesting to see is how some of the locations have memorials dedicated to Tony Stark (everyone forgot about all the other superheroes for some reason) which is an amazing addition considering the time period that Far From Home is set in.

4 Homecoming: The Villain

Both the Vulture and Mysterio are examples of decent MCU villains, but Vulture is still the superior one of the two because of the fact that he is a regular man who has to deal with the consequences of superhero battles.

Mysterio, on the other hand, possesses enough knowledge to get hired on higher well-paying positions. Besides, he has a personal vendetta against Tony, so he is only partially connected to Peter while the Vulture has a more personal link to the teenager.

3 Far From Home: Visuals

Perhaps the only complaint fans had regarding the Spider-Man films was that the CGI suit looked strange compared to the real-life suit Tom Holland wore. Everything else though was perfect.

That being said, it is undeniable that Far From Home managed to be way more exciting with its use of visuals. Upon its release, everyone kept talking about Mysterio’s illusions.

2 Homecoming: The Big Twist

Homecoming still has one of the biggest plot twists in the MCU. Though Far From Home has multiple deceptions that Peter should go through, the plot twist in Homecoming is still better.

When Peter shows up at Liz’s house, he is shocked to discover that her father is none other than the Vulture himself. What makes this discovery even better is the scene in the car when Adrian Toomes realizes who Peter is.

1 Far From Home: Character Development

The Peter we see in Homecoming wants to be an Avenger and depends on Tony quite a lot. The Peter we see in Far From Home is a completely different person who has to undergo even more character development on the way.

Peter has a lot of anxiety and grief in him at the same time. He feels the pressure of becoming someone bigger than he already is while trying to get over Tony’s death and manage his own life. He gets even more stress when he is betrayed by Mysterio who confuses him with his deceptions. In fact, by the end of the film, Peter has even consciously killed a person for the first time…
