Metal Gear Solid 5: Cosplaying Dog Becomes Adorable DD

A cuddly Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain cosplay transforms a fan’s adorable dog into DD. The 2015 title concluded the espionage action saga by bringing it full circle, with creator Hideo Kojima leaving publisher Konami before the game’s launch. In the past fans have recreated Snake’s prosthetic arm from Metal Gear Solid 5, and now a courageous canine has assumed the role of beloved Buddy D-Dog.

As the epic finale of the Metal Gear franchise, MGSV overhauls the franchise’s signature stealth gameplay to simulate realistic military operations. Players can meticulously plan the infiltration of heavily-guarded compounds, with a wide range of weapons and tools aiding them on their open-world missions. Various Buddies are also available, with each one possessing unique abilities that can prove invaluable to protagonist Venom Snake. The mechanical D-Walker is a mobile weapons platform, while the aptly-named D-Horse allows for fast travel across the map. D-Dog is a particularly beloved canine companion, but Metal Gear Solid V’s Quiet is perhaps the most renowned Buddy due to her supernatural sniping prowess.

Reddit user drearyana has paid tribute to Metal Gear Solid V’s D-Dog through the creation of an adorable cosplay. The MGSV fan flawlessly transformed their pet, an Akita Inu named Marshmallow, into the combative canine by decking her out in the Buddy’s iconic vest and visor. While Venom Snake’s fearless sidekick wears an eyepatch to match his owner, drearyana reveals that their gorgeous pup refused to wear it for any length of time. Even still, Marshmallow perfectly embodies the focus and loyalty of Venom Snake’s beloved Diamond Dog.

Metal Gear Solid V launched back in 2015, but the tactical espionage adventure left a lasting impact on the video game industry for years. One of the franchise’s core themes is nuclear weaponry, and disarming nukes in Metal Gear Solid 5 is a mechanic that had unexpected consequences. A multiplayer component of MGS5 allows players to infiltrate other players’ bases to disarm their nukes, and eventually the PlayStation 3 community was able to dismantle every nuke in the game. This led to a special cutscene, wherein Kaz Miller and Snake celebrate world peace, being unlocked nearly five years after the game released.

Found as a puppy and raised to be an invaluable companion, D-Dog is one of the most memorable parts of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. His unique tactical style, which perfectly matches Venom Snake’s military gear, is perfectly recreated by skilled drearyana and the lovely Marshmallow. While the pooch is unlikely to actually infiltrate a military compound, her face is capable of distracting even the most hardened soldier.
