Michael Keaton Says He’s Filming Vulture Scenes In A Mystery Project

Michael Keaton is reprising Adrian Toomes/Vulture in a mystery project. The prolific actor is currently busy with a string of projects, including films both DC and Marvel. Keaton will be reprising his role as Batman in Andy Muschietti’s The Flash film, while he’s also confirmed to be in Morbius as the villain, Vulture. And in a new interview, he shares that he’s scheduled to start shooting for an unnamed endeavor as Toomes.

Keaton debuted as Vulture in Spider-Man: Homecoming in 2017. Directed by Jon Watts, it’s the first standalone movie for Tom Holland’s Spider-Man after being introduced a year prior in Captain America: Civil War. In the movie, Keaton played black market dealer, Adrian Toomes, who’s selling alien technology that was collected from the Avengers’ battle sites. Originally a straight-up businessman, he decided to try his hand at illegal trades after his company was refused the job order to clean up New York after Loki’s (Tom Hiddleston) attack in The Avengers. In the end, despite having the opportunity to kill him, Peter Parker decided to spare his life and let the police take him in. It’s uncertain where else he could pop up in the MCU, but he is confirmed to appear in Sony’s Morbius movie.

Appearing Jimmy Kimmel Live to promote his new Hulu show, Dopesick, the conversation naturally pivoted to his upcoming DC and Marvel projects. While the actor was expertly able to elude spoiler-specific questions, he revealed at the end that he’s actually set to film some scenes as Vulture. Unfortunately, he didn’t say for what project it will be, leaving fans wondering which project he might be referring to. Read what he said below:

“I’m shooting tomorrow… some Vulture stuff”

It’s surprising for Keaton to just blurt out that he’s filming some scenes as the Vulture. But for what it’s worth, the actor himself confirmed that he’s not exactly up to speed with what’s going on in both his roles for DC and Marvel. So, he might not even be aware that he’s not allowed to say about reprising his role as Vulture. In any case, it’s curious what project he might be referring to in the interview. The most obvious possibility is for Morbius. While the film finished reshoots in early 2021, it’s possible that Sony is reworking some of Toomes’ scenes to establish a clearer connection between their universe and the MCU. After all, Keaton’s Vulture serves as the narrative link. There’s also the chance that it could be for Spider-Man: No Way Home. The threequel is set to feature a variation of the Sinister Six, but it has yet to be revealed who the sixth member of the villainous team is. Perhaps Marvel Studios and Sony have purposefully kept Vulture out of their marketing, which, unfortunately, makes Keaton’s revelation worse.

Finally, perhaps Keaton’s Vulture is somehow involved in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. The Sam Raimi-directed film is scheduled to do some reshoots to include actors that were previously unavailable during principal photography. Given Keaton’s other commitments, he could be one of those stars that were unable to join the cast during the initial production duration. It’s worth noting that the Benedict Cumberbatch-led film is confirmed to tie into Spider-Man: No Way Home and will expand on the concept of the multiverse. Given Vulture‘s involvement in Morbius, an appearance in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness could properly explain how he ends up in a universe that’s technically outside of the MCU.
