Halloween Kills‘ Michael Myers and the titular doll from Chucky face off in a new cross-promotional ad. Halloween Kills is the upcoming second film in Blumhouse’s reboot trilogy and the twelfth Halloween film overall. The film, which comes to theaters on October 15, will follow three generations of Strode women gathering the forces of Haddonfield to face off against the unstoppable evil killer Michael Myers. The film stars Jamie Lee Curtis, Judy Greer, Andy Matichak, Nick Castle, Anthony Michael Hall, and three additional actors returning from the original 1978 film, Kyle Richards, Charles Cyphers, and Nancy Stephens.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

Chucky, which premiered on SyFy this week and will run for 10 episodes on Tuesdays, is the latest entry in the killer doll franchise. The show was created by Don Mancini, who originally created the character for the 1988 film Child’s Play. Mancini wrote the screenplays for the following 6 films, directing 3 of them. This project was produced in opposition to the 2019 Child’s Play, which was technically a remake of the original script, though Mancini still has the rights to the character and the show is continuing the continuity established from the original film through 2017’s Cult of Chucky. The show follows a bullied gay teen befriending Chucky, after which murder and mayhem ensue. It stars Zackary Arthur, Björgvin Arnarson, Alyvia Alyn Lind, Teo Briones, Lexa Doig, and Devon Sawa, with returning franchise characters including Fiona Dourif as Nica, Alex Vincent as Andy, Christine Elise as Kyle, Jennifer Tilly as Tiffany, and Brad Dourif as the voice of Chucky (who is allowed to use 10 F-bombs per Chucky episode).

In a brand new bit of cross-promotion for the two new horror projects, Chucky and Michael Myers are meeting for the first time in a short comedic advertisement. The video shows Chucky carving a pumpkin with Michael Myers’ face, which the masked killer doesn’t seem to take too kindly to. The new short spot is currently available online on JoBlo Horror Trailers attached to a full trailer for Halloween Kills. Check out the video below:

This crossover is possible because both properties have involvement from Universal. Universal is the distributor for the Halloween films, and Universal Content Productions co-produced Chucky with Pheidippides, David Kirschner Productions, and Eat the Cat. With both horror properties making major Halloween debuts in the same week, it certainly makes sense to have them rub shoulders.

Although this crossover between Halloween Kills and Chucky is perhaps disappointingly short, it does mark an interesting milestone. This is the first time either iconic slasher villain has crossed over with another major horror property. While Freddy has fought Jason in the past, even crossing over with The Evil Dead‘s Ash in a series of comics, Michael and Chucky have had rather insular continuities. The closest either franchise has previously gotten is a brief visual gag in Bride of Chucky where Michael Myers’ mask is glimpsed in an evidence locker. Even if it’s just for a brief time, this inaugural meeting between slasher giants is sure to get horror fans’ blood pumping.
