New relationships form in Miles Morales: Spider-Man with Miles and new hero Starling, the granddaughter of classic Marvel villain Vulture. However, if Miles is ever to be introduced in the MCU (as it’s been hinted at before) then this budding new romance might not be able to make the cut.

Created by Saladin Ahmed, Tiana Toomes aka Starling made her debut in Miles Morales: Spider-Man #5 where she was introduced as the granddaughter of notorious villain Vulture. After a team-up with Miles in Miles Morales: Spider-Man #6 in order to take down Tombstone, she reveals her secret identity to Miles including who her grandfather is. This moved Miles to want to open up more after noticing the effects of how his secret life as Spider-Man is affecting the people closest to him. Eventually, Miles opens up to Starling and reveals his secret identity, resulting in the two young heroes sharing a passionate kiss in issue 22.

The budding relationship was immediately put on hold after the King in Black and Clone Saga arcs but soon came back into focus in the 10th-anniversary issue of Miles Morales: Spider-Man #30. Miles Morales: Spider-Man writer and Starling creator Saladin Ahmed told Marvel in an interview for issue #6 he wanted a love interest for Miles much similar to Black Cat and felt as though now was the right time to introduce a character of that magnitude. This new romance might have come just in time for Miles in the comics but the MCU pegs more challenging issues. For one thing, Vulture in the MCU has a daughter who’s Peter’s age (or slightly older depending on the Blimp) making the existence of Tiana less likely to happen, or far too young for any romances.

Miles’ existence in the MCU was sprouted all throughout Spider-Man: Homecoming from the introduction of Aaron Davis played by Donald Glover who hinted at a nephew he had living in the city. It’s well-known in the comics that Aaron Davis is Miles’ uncle and the villain known as The Prowler. Since Miles got his powers around Peter’s age and the film portrayed Aaron to be but a small-time criminal and not yet the professional villain this would put Miles at a far younger age than Peter. Vulture also made an appearance as the main villain of the film except he wasn’t a grandfather but a father to daughter Liz Toomes, the love interest to Peter Parker.

Miles Morales: Spider-Man #10 dives deeper into Starling’s backstory revealing her father to be the son of Vulture who later abandoned her and her mother. As the loving grandfather Vulture was, he took care of his granddaughter and even gifted her with her own hero costume much similar to his. Although it’s led to believe that Starling is a bit older than Miles in the comics, who was shocked to hear Tiana had her own apartment, it’s safe to say the age gap isn’t as drastic as if it were to happen in the MCU. However, now that the multiverse is currently in disarray and certain characters are now crossing over who’s to say Tiana might not pop up from a different universe closer to Miles’ age? As of now, Miles Morales and Tiana’s relationship is far from happening anytime soon in the MCU.
