The first collection of Milestone Media’s titles from the 1990s has finally released, compromised of Static, Hardware, Icon, and more. Previously only available on DC Universe Infinite, fans of the DC Comics imprint can now access the original version of the Dakotaverse with Milestone Compendium One.

Throughout the 90s, Milestone debuted superheroes such as Static, Icon, Rocket, Hardware, the Blood Syndicate, and others. Although some titles have had trade paperback releases before, they are now all out of print. With the amount of issues that came out during the 90s, many fans haven’t been able to go back and read the stories that introduced Virgil Hawkins or Curtis Metcalf. While the rebooted Dakotaverse continues to unfold with Static: Season One, Icon and Rocket: Season One, and Hardware: Season One, readers are now able to revisit the original takes on the heroes.

Last week, Milestone Compendium One became available, collecting series such as Blood Syndicate #1-12, Hardware #1-12, Icon #1-10, Static #1-8,  Xombi #0-11, and Shadow Cabinet #0. The collected titles feature the work of the founding Milestone team, Dwayne McDuffie, Denys Cowan, Michael Davis, and Derek T. Dingle. Original Milestone creator Denys Cowan illustrated the book’s cover, depicting a crossover between the heroes of Dakota.

As hinted by the collection’s title, it seems like more compendiums have yet to be announced. There are still many issues of the collected series that haven’t been reprinted before. Coinciding with the rebooted first seasons of the Milestone titles, Compendium One gives fans the chance to compare and see how far Dakota has come in more than 20 years. Although much has changed, the core of characters have remained the same. Static artist Nikolas Draper-Ivey posted an image of his copy on social media, insinuating that the past iteration has had an influence on the new modern take.

Also coinciding with Black History Month as celebrated throughout February, Milestone Compendium One honors the groundbreaking imprint from DC Comics. The publisher became known for representing readership who felt unrepresented by mainstream comics. Featuring superheroes from various cultural backgrounds and identities, Milestone stood out as one of the most ambitious comic book publishers at the time. Stories depicted cultural commentary that served characters and made audiences think, which was a testament to the original creative team. Milestone Compendium Oneis now available to order online and at comic book shops.
