A Minecraft build recreated Undertale’s Underground entrance, an iconic location from the 2D role-playing game. Mojang’s 3D voxel sandbox remains immensely popular, especially for those with creative tastes. Minecraft’s sandbox elements are a major draw, and even after 12 years since its initial release, fans are still utilizing the mechanics to create innovative builds. Recently, a skilled Minecraft player recreated Venice’s iconic canals, having utilized texture mods to add enhanced realism. Though the game does have main objectives like killing the Ender Dragon, many are drawn to its creative potential. Some fans have spent years working on massive projects such as Cyberpunk 2077’s Night City or Midtown Manhattan.

Minecraft builders are showing little signs of slowing down, with new projects being revealed all the time. One project, orchestrated by YouTuber PippenFTS, completed a 1:1 scale version of the Earth inside the virtual voxel world. The user utilized two mods which allowed him to change the shape of Minecraft chunks in order to have more build depth and make Earth inside the game more realistic. Some projects construct fantastical places like J. R. R Tolkien’s fantasy world in Minecraft.

A new Minecraft build recreated an iconic Undertale location. Reddit user RedFire7689 built the entrance to The Underground, which is the setting for the vast majority of Toby Fox’s indie game. It is a region beneath the surface of the Earth which houses the monsters that populate the game. The build included the hole that leads into the ruins from Mount Ebott, which is the same hole many humans, including Chara, fell into before being trapped in The Underground. The builder used vines and columns to capture the essence of the original artwork.

Undertale was a critical success at launch, especially since its development was essentially completed by a single person. Since its release in 2015, the game has maintained a massive following. A few draws to the 2D RPG are Undertale‘s vast gameplay options and immense lore, which has since been expanded by members of the fanbase. There is also a massive history that precedes the events of the game, such as a war between the Humans and Monsters before the latter was banished from the surface of the Earth.

Minecraft seems to be a place where fandoms go to express their creativity. Recreations of iconic video game locales are often built within the sandbox, just like The Underground from Undertale was developed. Perhaps RedFire7689 will continue the project and recreate more iconic Undertale locations inside Minecraft. Places like Snowdin, Waterfall, Hotland, and CORE would be especially interesting in a 3D voxel design, as would The Underground’s capital, New Home.

Minecraft is available to play now on the Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation, Xbox, Android, and iOS platforms. Undertale is available now on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Switch, and Steam.
