Minecraft: How to Get Dripleaves (& What They’re For)

Dripleaves in Minecraft, composed of Big and Small Dripleaves, are a unique type of plant that naturally grows in the Lush Caves biome. While they are not part of any recipes, their appearance can create a decorative pond-like aesthetic similar to Lily Pads. However, the main attraction of the Dripleaf is its utility in creating parkour structures in Minecraft.

The Big Dripleaf is the “leaf” part at the top, while the Small Dripleaf constitutes the plant’s stem. Whenever an entity such as a player stands on a Big Dripleaf, the leaflet will momentarily support the weight until collapsing. Yet, it will restore itself after a few seconds, allowing characters to jump on top of it once again. There is no limit for how many times a crumples, meaning that players can use the block an infinite number of times. On the other hand, there is a way to keep a Big Dripleaf from tilting by using Redstone. Therefore, any Dripleaf leaflet powered by Redstone will not collapse. However, keep in mind that this applies to the Big Dripleaf and not the “stem” or Small Dripleaf.

The primary way to get Dripleaves is by visiting the Lush Caves biome in Minecraft. Lush Caves are temperate Overworld cavern biomes that generate below Y=0 to Y=-64. While it’s possible to encounter a cave system while exploring a mine, the most reliable way to find one is by searching for Azalea Trees. Although similar in appearance to an Oak Tree, the Azalea noticeably stands out with its yellowish-green tinted leaves and small pink flowers that bloom all over its foliage. Once players spot one, they can dig directly beneath its rooted soil to discover a Lush Cave.

How to Get and Use Dripleaves in Minecraft

Within a Lush Cave, the best place to find Dripleaves is beside pools of water. Small Dripleaves naturally grow or can be placed on top of Clay or Moss Blocks in Minecraft. They can also grow on underwater Dirt-related Blocks. Conversely, Big Dripleaves will only reach a single block in height, yet they can be placed on the surface of any block.

Another way to get Small Dripleaves is by exchanging Emeralds with a Wandering Trader. Nevertheless, this bargain will only occur randomly. Once players obtain Big and Small Dripleaves, they can increase the height of the plants by using Bonemeal on them. Additionally, although Big Dripleaves naturally grow up to one block on any surface, they can grow to new heights when Bonemeal is used.
