Minecraft: How To Get Magma Cream (& What It’s For)

Minecraft‘s Potions of Fire Resistance are a necessity for safely traversing the hazardous depths of the Nether, but first, players will need Magma Cream to brew these helpful elixirs. Magma Cream can be obtained from crafting or mob drops, yet both methods still require players to venture into the underworld biome. Ironically, Minecraft players must deal with fire-type enemies in the Nether in order to obtain Magma Cream. Therefore, it’s recommended that adventurers bring adequate food for healing and Dirt Blocks for fleeing, as water is ineffective within the inferno realm.

The first source of Magma Cream in Minecraft is Magma Cubes, hostile mobs found within the Nether. Players shouldn’t be fooled by the Magma Cubes’ innocent appearance, as these distant cousins of Slimes can deal significantly more damage than their Overworld counterparts. Magma Cubes sometimes spawn within the Nether Wastes but can be more commonly found within Basalt Deltas or Fortresses. Occasionally, their spawners will appear within the treasure rooms of Bastions. To get the maximum quantity of Magma Creams from these mobs, Minecraft players can enchant their weaponry with Loot I – III for a chance for bonus drops.

Alternatively, Magma Cream can be crafted using a Slimeball and Blaze Powder. Slimeballs naturally come from Slimes, which frequently spawn in Minecraft‘s Swamp Biome. Players can also buy Slimeballs from Wandering Traders for several Emeralds. Blaze Powder is extracted from Blaze Rods which exclusively come from Blazes. Nether Fortresses are the only places where players can find Blazes.

Crafting Potions of Fire Resistance in Minecraft

Before players can use their Magma Cream in alchemy, they must also acquire Nether Wart to turn normal flasks of water into Awkward Potions for brewing. In the same Nether Fortresses where Blazes reside, players should also search for Soul Sand Gardens. These small plots of sand will often spawn several clusters of Nether Wart. Additionally, Nether Wart can generate in the housing courtyards of Bastion Remnants found in the underworld.

Once players have obtained Magma Cream and Nether Wart, they can place it within a Minecraft Brewing Stand to craft Potions of Fire Resistance. Remember always to use three empty vials as the same ingredient will always be consumed no matter if one or three glass bottles are used. A standard Potion of Fire Resistance will last for 3 minutes. However, if a pinch of Redstone is added to the brewed mixture, the Fire Resistance effect will extend to 8 minutes.
