A new Minecraft How to Train Your Dragon DLC pack is now live, and Minecraft Dungeons‘s next major DLC expansion have been announced with a late May release date. Twelve years on from its initial appearance, Minecraft continues to receive consistent updates and content due to its sustained popularity, with a recent earnings report by Microsoft revealing that the game had surpassed over 140 million active monthly players.

Minecraft Dungeons was released in May 2020 as a collaborative effort between developers Mojang and Double Eleven, and it received mixed reviews from fans and critics. As a spinoff game, Minecraft Dungeons differs significantly from the original Minecraft, which offers open-world sandbox gameplay, instead playing as a short, procedurally generated dungeon crawler with a story. Despite being only a year old, Dungeons has received four expansions and several free updates so far, with each expansion adding a new biome for players to loot and explore.

First announced on the Minecraft website, a new How To Train Your Dragon-themed DLC pack is now available for purchase on the Minecraft Marketplace for 1340 Minecoins. The DLC will add blocky versions of the island of Berk and the islands of the Barbaric Archipelago straight form the DreamWorks franchise. As the name of the DLC suggests, players will be able to tame, collect, and ride dragons, and assist residents of Berk on a variety of new quests, with the help of Hiccup and the rest of the How To Train Your Dragon cast. Along with the new area, the DLC includes 24 new skins and a free character creator item.

Also announced on the Minecraft website was the upcoming Minecraft Dungeons DLC, an ocean-themed expansion pack aptly named Hidden Depths. Players will be plunged into the dark oceanic depths, which features new enemies like pufferfish and a new quest to fight a spreading corruption. Slated for release on all platforms on May 26, the pack will also bring a free update which includes new levels, new enchantments, and a Raid Captains feature that adds challenging Raid Captain enemies hoarding treasures throughout the game’s world.

The new expansion packs for Minecraft and Minecraft Dungeons are thematically polar opposites of each other, but they’ll add a plethora of new ways to enjoy each game, from exploring the deepest depths of the ocean to soaring through the skies on the back of a dragon. For Minecraft players, the new content offered in the DLC will no doubt help tide fans over until the eventual release of the split Caves & Cliffs updates later in 2021.

Minecraft is available on all platforms. Minecraft Dungeons is available on PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
