A Minecraft player-created ore-inspired keycaps that allow players to mine with their fingers. This isn’t the first time Minecraft players have created some inspiring art inside and outside the game. From an astronomical build of a quasar swallowing a star, a sculpture of a terrifying demon, to a creeper jack-o-lantern, Minecraft players never fail to show off their skills. Even though sculptures inside the game are more popular, it’s always exciting to see a real-life project bring the game to the real world.

Even though some ores are deemed useless in the Minecraft universe, players always seem to make them useful in some way. This isn’t the first creative DIY project from the Minecraft community, nor is it the first ore-inspired one. About a month ago, a Minecraft player posted a photo of a homemade RGB ore lamp to the subreddit, and commentators on the thread seemed to absolutely love it.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

Reddit user ellienn posted a photo of ore-inspired keycaps that they had created to the Minecraft subreddit. The ore keycaps are very square in design to mimic the look of the Minecraft materials. However, this design was said to make the keycaps a bit uncomfortable to use. Ellienn explains that the escape key is difficult to use because it is much larger than a regular key, but the rest (because they are the same size as standard keys) are okay to use, but the shape still makes it awkward to press. Ellienn further explains that they are open to any ideas on improving the comfortability and design of the keycaps.

There are five keycaps in total, one for the Escape key and the rest are for the F1 to F4 keys. The design is based on the new Minecraft 1.17 textures and the lights shown in the picture are due to the player’s keyboard having RBG elements. They were able to assign colors to the keycaps giving them a more authentic Minecraft look. The Minecraft player explains that they 3D printed and tested their design to fit on outemu switches; therefore, cherry and cherry clones should work as well. They uploaded STL files to allow other players to have excellent light-up keycaps for themselves.

DIY Minecraft projects can be just as exciting and intricate as the models and sculptures that are created inside the game. Many Reddit users have shared their real-life Minecraft materials aside from the ore like glass and grass blocks. Perhaps in the future, players will have an entire Minecraft-inspired gaming setup.

Minecraft is available on all platforms.
