A Minecraft player built a huge cathedral, with a single unexpected twist: they made it out of dirt. Mojang Studios’ popular voxel survival game has stayed relevant for over a decade due to the endless possibilities for creation that Minecraft provides. With regular updates to the game keeping content fresh and exciting, like the overhaul to world generation from the recent Caves and Cliffs Update Part Two, Minecraft is still thriving even now that it has been on the market for 11 years.

Monolithic and amazing structures are nothing new to the Minecraft subreddit. On any given day a new build of insane proportions can be found, only to be outdone on the next. Minecraft provides its players with a medium to unleash their creativity in a fun way and combines that opportunity with some fun survival, combat, and exploration aspects. The Reddit community, along with various online forums and other forms of social media, provide the other side of the equation: a place to share their creations. The creations players create range from recreations of real-world architecture and art to amazing builds of fictional artifice like a Republic Star Destroyer from Star Wars.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

The Minecraft build that caught the eye of Reddit today is a beautiful cathedral, intricately sculpted, and made out of dirt. Minecraft player bob_2_ took it upon themselves to craft the most lavish first night dirt hut that the Minecraft community has seen to date. The cathedral is inspired by various gothic cathedrals of the real world, the facade owing the majority of its influence to the Milan cathedral, as revealed by a later comment from bob_2_.

It is tradition for the first structure built by a Minecraft player in a survival run to be a simple dirt hut to survive the night, and real-life scale cathedrals in Minecraft are not unheard of. However, the combination of the two is quite impressive as well as entertaining. The way the player pulled it off was to take a cathedral they were working on in creative mode with world edit and replaced the entire structure with dirt blocks. A much more manageable, but still impressive feat.

With the ever-increasing complexity of  Minecraft builds it is easy to lose sight of how much work actually goes into creating the incredible builds that are constantly being shared with the internet. Minecraft can be a very relaxing game to play when taken on in a casual way. However, the approach that many Minecraft players choose to take in building immense builds and creating innovative structures that literally defy Minecraft‘s physics paragons a way of playing the game that is not for the faint of heart.

Minecraft is available on all platforms.
