Minecraft Player’s Handmade Axolotl Is Disarmingly Adorable

Minecraft’s axolotl, one of the latest additions to the game’s diverse fauna, was remade by a crafty player into a disarmingly adorable cross-stitch toy. Due to their cuteness, axolotls are often being featured in fans’ works, although the majority of such creative undertakings are usually being performed in-game.

Among these creative challenges was one Minecraft player who thought that axolotls needed a slight rework and turned them into platypuses using a texture pack. The idea of redesigning Minecraft’s axolotl into a platypus is quite fitting considering that both animals can either navigate waters or occasionally walk on land. That being said, the player’s work did take a bit more effort than just painting a different texture. Since platypus has some obvious differences in appearance compared to an axolotl, the in-game model required additional work to correctly reflect the animals’ limbs and its famous beak.

Reddit user Hylian_Princess816 has shared their amazing handmade axolotl toy over on Minecraft’s subreddit. According to the creator, the body of the disarmingly cute animal was stitched with basic yarn while the feet, gills, and tail were made from felt. It appears that the adorable Minecraft axolotl figurine, meticulously crafted with cross-stitch technique, actually used a similar papercraft axolotl as a foundation and color reference. As a free design, everyone can download and use the papercraft for their enjoyment, but Hylian_Princess816 decided to elevate the idea to a whole new level. Some Redditors stated they would gladly spend their money to grab a hold of such an amazing handmade toy. Hylian_Princess816, however, is not planning to sell cross-stitch Minecraft axolotls, as the single existing one took a whole month to create.

Although Minecraft’s axolotl is indisputably adorable, not all of the fans’ projects keep the animal’s innocent look intact. One player somehow decided it was a great idea to combine several creatures into one, the result of which was a Minecraft crossbow-wielding axolotl-turtle hybrid. While it’s hard even to pronounce, the most difficult part is to accept that such a thing indeed exists. Interestingly, the bizarre mob includes not one but two axolotls to make it look even weirder. One of the best-suggested names for such an abomination was Shootalotl, which is a brilliant pun considering how the creation looks.

The amazing cross-stitch axolotl toy perfectly represents how adorable these in-game Minecraft animals are. And while it’s always pleasing to observe how talented and crafty the gaming community is, developers should take a more serious note of such popular creations. The demand for the handmade axolotl toy is quite high, which could be used by Mojang to at least consider the idea of offering a limited series of similar cuties for players to purchase.
