Minecraft recently received a visit by the Republic in the form of a giant Star Destroyer from the Star Wars franchise hovering high above the clouds. Players can make anything in Minecraft, and some have taken advantage of Mojang Studios’ user-generated sandbox to put together impressive tributes to various games, movies, and TV shows.

Naturally, this includes Star Wars. Minecraft players have recreated the Galaxy Far, Far, Away in many different ways, from building famous locations like the desert world of Tatooine or Naboo’s Theed City from Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace. Other noteworthy Minecraft Star Wars projects include a replica of the Galactic Empire’s classic TIE Fighter, and even Mojang Studios itself joined in on the fun with an official Star Wars-themed resource pack last November that contained materials and character skins from the movies and the Disney Plus TV show The Mandalorian.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

Yesterday, Reddit user SbeevYT posted an image of a Venator-class Star Destroyer hovering high in the air above their Minecraft biome to r/Minecraft. Longtime Star Wars fans will recognize the Venator as a flagship of the Republic during the Clone Wars of the Prequel Trilogy and the critically acclaimed Star Wars: The Clone Wars animated series. This vessel served as a prototype to the Imperial Star Destroyers that frequently menaced the Rebel Alliance during the events of the Original Trilogy, and has made appearances in numerous Star Wars games like 2005’s Star Wars Battlefront II.

While Star Destroyers survey the world of Minecraft in hopes of finding allies to help combat the Separatists, Star Wars-themed video games are entering an exciting new era. The end of EA’s exclusive deal to the Star Wars video game rights has opened the door to other publishers to make their own highly anticipated titles set in the iconic Galaxy Far, Far, Away, such as Ubisoft’s yet-untitled open-world Star Wars game. Meanwhile, longtime Star Wars PC port developer Aspyr is working on a remake of the beloved Star Wars: Knights Of The Old Republic for modern consoles, having announced this project during September’s PlayStation Showcase livestream. Finally, Detroit: Become Human developer Quantic Dream recently revealed Star Wars Eclipse during The Game Awards 2021, but a mix of recent development troubles and backlash over past abusive behavior from Quantic Dreams head David Cage has already caused considerable trouble for the High Republic-set title.

In the meantime, creative outlets like Minecraft have allowed Star Wars fans to build stunning tributes to one of the greatest multi-media franchises of all time, including SbeevYT’s massive Republic Star Destroyer. Thankfully this is a Republic vessel and not a Star Destroyer of the evil Galactic Empire, but Star Wars fans know all too well that the shift between the two isn’t that far away.
