Mojang’s Minecraft is a gigantic open-world sandbox that seems to go on forever. There’s an endless world to discover and craft as you journey through the randomly generated levels. Minecraft does have an ending though, in the form of a floating island protected by the almighty Enderdragon. Reaching The End is no easy task, requiring a large number of materials to produce the End Portal.

To reach The End players must go through a series of steps to find and activate an End Portal. Gathering materials along the way in preparation for fighting the Enderdragon can seem bothersome at first, but this walkthrough will guide you in finding The End in the fastest way possible.

Mining Diamonds in Minecraft

Diamonds are the first priority in getting to The End. The main reason is in crafting a Diamond Pickaxe. The Diamond Pickaxe will give you the access you need to mine Obsidian, a material needed in later steps. Diamond Ore only appears between layers 1-16, with the most being found on layer 12. Once you’ve gained enough Diamonds, you can craft the pickaxe and move onto the next step.

It would be wise to also craft the Diamond armor pieces as well, in preparation for fighting the Enderdragon.

Building the Nether Portal in Minecraft

Once players have made their Diamond Pickaxe, they will need to craft a Nether Portal. To craft a Nether Portal, players will need 14 Obsidian blocks and a Flint & Steel. The easiest way to find Obsidian is to simply make your own. Doing so requires you find a pool of Lava deep within the depths of the world. Once found, you can take one of your Water Buckets and pour it over the top of any Lava pool. This will turn the Lava into Obsidian, allowing for easy mining with the Diamond Pickaxe.

Next, you will want to craft a rectangular box with the Obsidian, 4 blocks wide and 5 blocks high. Click your Flint & Steel in the center and you’ve made a Nether Portal. Once inside the Nether, you’ll need to find a fortress made out of nether bricks. Inside the fortress, you’ll find a Blaze spawn. Simply wait by the box for the Blazes to spawn and kill them until you acquire 6 Blaze Sticks, another material needed for the End Portal. The easiest and safest way to kill a blaze is with a snowball.

Once you’ve acquired 6 Blaze Sticks place them into any slot on the crafting board to produce 2 Blaze Powder each. Now is time to hunt some Enderman.

Hunting Enderpearls in Minecraft

Next up, players are going to need some Enderpearls. This is the most tedious and frustrating part of the entire process as Enderman are hard to come by and only occasionally drop the pearls. You’ll need to get a total of 12 Enderpearls. The easiest method is to head out to a Desert terrain and wait for night time. Enderman spawns only at night and mostly in flat areas of the map. Hack and slash as many as possible until you have all 12 and then head back to your base.

Building the End Portal inside Minecraft

Now’s the big moment, players are going to begin crafting 12 Eye of the Enderman. To do this you will need to one Blaze Powder in the center of your crafting page and one Enderpearl in the bottom center. This will produce the Eye of the Enderman.

Once crafted, choose one from your inventory and throw it into the sky. The Eye of the Ender will fly away from you in the direction of a fortress containing the End Portal. Once you can throw one in the air and it doesn’t go anywhere, dig directly down and you will find a brick fortress containing the End Portal.

Place all 12 Eye of the Enders into the End Portal. This will open a portal that leads you to an island filled with Enderman and a few tall towers that you will need to climb to destroy the pink blocks that regenerate the Enderdragon throughout the fight. Once destroyed, move to the middle where the Enderdragon will land and the fight will begin.

Congratulations, you’ve officially made it to The End of Minecraft.

Minecraft is available on PC, Xbox One, Playstation 4, and Nintendo Switch.
