A fan of Minecraft and Norse mythology has come out with a breathtaking rendition of the mythical Yggdrasil tree. This blocky-yet-beautiful version of the sacred tree, which plays a central role in Norse mythology, was crafted on a massive scale– making it just one of many such ambitious Minecraft creations.

Thanks to a wealth of user-friendly options, Minecraft players have been able to whip up some truly impressive and inspiring works of art within the DIY building and survival title. Previous popular builds have included replica cities, stunning natural vistas, creepy caves, and colossal statues of fictional characters like Doug Dimmadome of The Fairly Odd-Parents fame. Minecraft‘s standard mode places a great focus on scavenging, crafting, and surviving an onslaught of pixelated monsters, but the alternative Creative Mode unshackles players and allows them to let their imagination run wild; Creative Mode gives players immediate, unrestricted access to all of the game’s multitudinous materials and tools, many of which would take a fair amount of work to acquire in Survival Mode. Creative Mode also lets players move about the map unburdened by the laws of physics, which helps make building massive structures much easier.

A talented Minecraft creator appears to have leveraged this Creative Mode to put together a dizzying and beautiful recreation of Yggdrasil. The player, who goes by the Reddit handle Neozono, shared images of their vibrant and luminous mythological tree earlier today. The structure is as big as would be expected, but it is unique in the sense that it doubles as an interior space; the inside of Yggdrasil in this Minecraft build contains what looks like a library, lounge, and atrium, all accessible via a large opening at the front of the tree.

At the time of writing, the top comment on the Reddit post is simply: “Beautiful.” This commenter is likely speaking for the majority of those who view this piece, as it is truly stunning and will leave any fan of Minecraft or digital art in general speechless. As is the case with so many of these Minecraft creations, the attention to detail and commitment to finishing such a laborious undertaking is commendable, and the efforts of Neozono have certainly paid off.

In the title of the post, Neozono comments that it is their first “big” build. If that is truly the case, then it is all the more impressive. Putting together gargantuan, meticulously detailed creations within Minecraft is no easy feat, but those who appreciate these pieces can only hope that Neozono’s Yggdrasil will inspire new players to express themselves within the game.
