A new clip from Young Sheldon season 5 reveals Ming-Na Wen putting Sheldon (Iain Armitage) in his place. After her successful stint as Fennec Shand on Disney+’s The Book of Boba Fett, the actress returns to network TV via The Big Bang Theory prequel. In the upcoming episode of Young Sheldon, Wen plays Dr. Carol Lee — East Texas Tech’s director of experimental cosmology. Expectedly, Sheldon immediately has issues with her; fortunately, she knows how to handle the socially-inept genius effectively when he’s being difficult.

Young Sheldon season 5 is scheduled to return with a brand new episode this week after taking a two-week hiatus due to the Winter Olympics. Before the break, the show’s narrative slowly shifted its storytelling focus on its titular character after sidelining him for most of the year. In the last episode, Sheldon started to hang out with his next-door dorm neighbors, and surprisingly, he was having a good time until he had a stomach ache. But after a fun night with his new friends, Sheldon is faced with an academic dilemma brought about by the arrival of Lee.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

Shared by TV Promos on YouTube is a series of sneak peeks for Young Sheldon season 5, episode 14 titled “A Free Scratcher and Feminine Wiles,” including Lee introducing herself. From the looks of it, she takes over the study that he, alongside Dr. Linkletter (Ed Begley Jr.) and Dr. Sturgis (Wallace Shawn), are spearheading as the trio squabbled. Watch the video below:

As revealed in the subsequent clip, Linkletter and Sturgis are okay with Lee taking over their experiment, but Sheldon isn’t. Clueless about how to approach the situation, he seeks Missy’s (Raegan Revord) for help, hoping that his sister can help him rectify the situation. Unfortunately, even she thinks that Sheldon should follow since he can’t really do anything about it. However, in a previously released Young Sheldon season 5 trailer, it seems like he doesn’t follow his twin’s advice; instead, he proceeds to confront Lee, which the Cosmology Director expertly handles. What comes out of this challenging situation for Sheldon is unknown, but hopefully, he learns something from it.

Elsewhere in the episode, the Cooper family deals with winning $500 from a lotto ticket. Considering that much of Sheldon’s arc will more likely be set in East Texas Tech, it’s curious if he will be involved in the Young Sheldon episode’s B plot. In any case, since The Big Bang Theory prequel’s season 5 has sidelined him earlier in the year, it makes sense that CBS wants to give him his own storylines. After all, it is his show. Young SheldonSeason 5 airs Thursdays on CBS.
