After 11 incredible seasons, Modern Family is on its last leg with a couple of episodes left in its final season. We’ve seen these three families go through a lot in the course of 246 episodes (and counting), and it’s sad to say goodbye. Nevertheless, we have just as many episodes to rewatch and learn from so that the Dunphys, Delgado-Pritchetts, and Tucker-Pritchetts stay with TV’s finest forever.

With the help of IMDb’s rating system, we’re taking a look at the Modern Family season premieres, ranking them from worst to best. So which season has the highest rated premiere? Keep reading to see.

11 Season 11: “New Kids On The Block” (6.3)

It appears that Modern Family fans aren’t too fond of the series’ last and final season. The premiering episode, “New Kids on the Block,” only received a 6.3 out of 10 stars.

In the episode, we saw Haley trying to get a handle on motherhood with her new babies. But instead of taking her parents’ help and advice, she’s set in her ways of following the advice from a book she read. After the babies were in Claire and Phil’s care, they decided to ignore the book and do things their way, which worked, much to Haley’s chagrin.

10 Season 10: “I Love A Parade” (6.6)

At the start of the 10th season, we see the entire family getting ready for the annual Fourth of July parade where Jay would be acting as the Grand Marshal.

It was a prestigious moment for him, and now that Gloria is an American citizen, she loved the Fourth of July and celebrating patriotism. Meanwhile, Haley is conflicted when Arvin leaves for Switzerland, and Dylan comes back in her life. But all this patriotic drama didn’t mean much because fans only gave the episode a 6.6.

9 Season 9: “Lake Life” (7.8)

In Season 9’s “Lake Life,” we learn that the Pritchetts’ grew up going to the lake (who knew?), and Cam was happy to be married into a lake family. With the solar eclipse happening at the same time, Jay wanted to make this a lasting memory for the entire family but it doesn’t go his way. Haley, Luke, and Alex chase a party nearby, Mitchell gets caught up with an old flame, Cam and Gloria get stuck at sea, and Phil and Claire are scared they’re getting uncool in their “old” age. The episode was fun and endearing, earning a 7.8 from IMDb.

8 Season 7: “Summer Lovin'” (7.8)

It’s summertime in California in the Season 7 premiere episode “Summer Lovin.'” In this episode, we saw Haley moving on from Andy with her ex-flame, Dylan. She took the ending of her relationship with Andy hard, and was putting all her energy into a new start with Dylan (much to Claire’s disapproval).

Meanwhile, Mitchell is out of work and trying to cope with being a stay-at-home dad, which drives him mad, and Jay and Gloria start looking at schools for Joe. It was humorous to see Mitchell and Cam’s roles reversed, and how out of touch Jay and Gloria were with modern-day preschools.

7 Season 6: “The Long Honeymoon” (8.0)

Mitch and Cam fans were pumped to see the two finally get married and have the wedding of their dreams after a few horrible attempts. At the start of Season 6, we got to see how the couple was adjusting to married life, and it wasn’t how Mitchell expected it. Cameron is definitely the romantic out of the two, and he couldn’t seem to stop showering Mitchell with love and affection. However, it was far too much love and affection for Mitchell, which caused an argument between the two. Meanwhile, the Dunphys are having the best summer of their lives with Alex around, and Gloria and Jay get into a disagreement about their looks.

6 Season 3: “Dude Ranch” (8.0)

In the episode “Dude Ranch,” the whole family heads to Wyoming for an outdoorsy vacation, and as one can imagine, there are a few bumps in the road. Haley brings Dylan along and he decides it’s the perfect opportunity to propose. Claire, however, doesn’t want Haley to settle for someone like Dylan, and steals her moment from her. Over in the Tucker-Pritchett camp, Mitchell begins to worry that he’s not manly enough to raise a son, so he has Luke help him become a “boy dad.” With so many different struggles going on through the episode, it was one of the highlights of the season. We even saw Alex’s first real kiss!

5 Season 2: “The Old Wagon” (8.0)

In the episode “The Old Wagon,” the Dunphys spend the day reminiscing about their old station wagon, and waver between cleaning it up and selling it or keeping it for the memories. Over at Mitch and Cam’s, the couple is trying to build Lily a castle for the backyard, but Mitch isn’t good at home improvements, and Cameron is too afraid to tell him so. It was an endearing episode that won them an 8.0 on IMDb.

4 Season 8: “The Tale Of Three Cities” (8.1)

It’s rare that we see the Dunphy children getting along but in Season 8’s “Tale of Three Cities,” we see Haley, Alex, and Luke taking over New York City. With Claire and Phil leaving early for a closet conference, the three kids decide to extend their time in the Big Apple a little longer (without telling mom and dad). Funny enough, that’s exactly what Phil and Claire did. We then saw this family of five dodge each other around New York before everyone heading home. The rest of the family wasn’t there waiting for them, however. Mitchell and Cam were both in Missouri for a funeral, and the Delgado-Pritchetts were in Mexico for a wedding.

3 Season 5: “Suddenly, Last Summer” (8.1)

“Suddenly, Last Summer” was an epic episode of crazy minds and schedules. With gay marriage being legalized, we see Cam and Mitch go behind each other’s backs to propose to one another. Meanwhile, Claire and Phil need a break from their kids, and try to rework their schedules to have a handful of kid-free days, which blows up in Claire’s face. Jay and Gloria are also trying to have more alone time, and plan for Manny to spend a few weeks with family in Colombia. Between Cam and Mitch trying to outdo the other’s proposals and everyone else trying to get rid of their kids, a lot of laughs and hectic schedules were shared, giving this episode an 8.1.

2 Season 1: “Pilot” (8.2)

It’s no surprise that the pilot episode got one of the highest ratings compared to other premieres. It’s in this episode that we got to know the Dunphys, Delgado-Pritchetts, and Tucker-Pritchetts. It’s what set the audience up for the rest of the 11 seasons. We got to see the unique bond between Jay and Gloria, we learned that Phil was a “cool” dad, and we saw Mitchell and Cam welcome a baby girl named Lily into their lives. It was everything viewers could ever want for a successful sitcom.

1 Season 4: “Bringing Up Baby” (8.3)

Fans got the shock of a lifetime when Gloria announced that she was pregnant. At the beginning of the fourth season, Gloria plans on telling Jay the big news on his birthday but isn’t sure how he’ll take it. While fans (and Claire) expected Jay to be upset about a new baby, he was absolutely thrilled that he got another shot at raising a child. Similarly, Mitch and Cam learned that they wouldn’t be adopting a second baby after all, and decide to get a cat named Larry for Lily instead.
