Marvel’s M.O.D.O.K. on Hulu has allowed Marvel to explore the quirkier side of its comics— but will the series be getting a season 2? The series has already caused quite the buzz on social media and has pulled in an 88% on Rotten Tomatoes and a score of 71 on Metacritic. Despite the mostly positive reception, the future of MODOK could be in jeopardy due to Marvel’s shifting internal structure.

As the world of television has shifted into streaming in the last few years, Marvel Television struggled to gain a foothold. Shows came and went on multiple platforms, and some struggled to keep up with the power of Marvel’s cinematic universe. When Marvel TV was folded under the studio banner in late 2019, MODOK was one of few shows to survive. Because MODOK exists in a completely different universe than MCU canon and was stop-motion animation rather than live-action, production was allowed to move forward when many of Marvel Television’s live-action shows in development were canceled.

Marvel Television now falls under Marvel Studios, which is overseen by President Kevin Feige. Jordan Blum, co-creator of MODOK, has stated in previous interviews that Feige enjoys what they have done on MODOK so far— a serious bonus when it comes to keeping the show alive. No official announcements have been made about a second season. Until then, here’s everything we know about MODOK season 2.

MODOK Season 2 Renewal— Will Season 2 Happen Now That Marvel TV Is Gone?

For MODOK season 2 to be greenlit, it would have to be approved by a new entity, Marvel Studios. However, there’s hope for a second season. Jordan Blum mentioned a season 2 plotline on Twitter and has discussed the possibility for a season 2 in interviews. In an interview with ComicBook, Blum mentions that the creative team has an outline for season 2 and that they’re very excited to keep the story going. But the only way to secure season 2, according to Blum, is for fans to hit social media and show Hulu their love for season 1.

MODOK Season 2 Release Date Info

As of right now, there is no official date for MODOK season 2. MODOK season 1 was first announced in February 2019 and concluded animation and audio recording by October 2020. MODOK is animated using stop-motion animation, which can take hours of painstaking work for only a few seconds of footage in highly detailed works like MODOK. Between not being greenlit yet and its advanced animation, it may be some time before fans get to see MODOK season 2. At the rate of season 1, MODOK season 2 could be released in early 2022 if a second season is greenlit shortly.

MODOK Season 2 Story Details

The end of MODOK season 1 left MODOK as the emperor of his own utopia at the cost of his own family. Young MODOK had explored every possible future and found only one that would allow both MODOKS to achieve their dreams of running a perfect world. Achieving that, however, required MODOK to allow Young MODOK to kill his family. Now, MODOK has captured Young MODOK’s abilities in hopes of bringing his family back to the perfect world he’d created; this search for his family is likely to be the major plot line for season 2. Blum has also hinted at possible smaller stories for MODOK season 2, including exploring Melissa’s relationships (Blum confirmed on Twitter in April Melissa is bisexual) and more familiar X-Men characters.
