The newly released Morbius has been critically scathed for how overly serious it is and the CGI effects but while it hasn’t landed well with its target audience, there’s still a lot of talent in the movie. The film is full of both up-and-coming stars and incredible, seasoned actors.

There aren’t many characters in the movie, but the few characters in Morbius are made up of award-winning actors like Jared Leto, Michael Keaton, and Matt Smith, and genre actors like Tyrese Gibson and Al Madrigal. And between cult classics, modest romantic comedies, and huge Blockbuster popcorn flicks, there’s such a wide range of great movies and something for everyone.

7 Adria Arjona – Triple Frontier (2019) – 6.4

Stream On Netflix

While Adria Arjona is still very much a rising actor, she has starred alongside some of Hollywood’s best actors and had the best 2019 an actor at her level could ever ask for. That year, she starred in the action-packed, Ryan Reynolds-starring, Michael Bay-directed 6 Underground. And if working with one of the biggest directors and most popular stars wasn’t enough, Arjona starred in the even better Netflix movie Triple Frontier in the same year. It’s as close to a blockbuster event as a streaming movie can get.

The movie is almost like a modern-day Ocean’s Eleven, as it has an all-star lineup that includes Ben Affleck, Oscar Isaac, Charlie Hunnam, and many others, as it follows Army Delta Force operators who plan a heist in Colombia. While it isn’t the greatest heist movie team of all time, it still makes for an entertaining film, and it sees Arjona holding her own against Hollywood heavyweights.

6 Al Madrigal – The Map Of Tiny Perfect Things (2021) – 6.9

Stream On Amazon Prime

Few other superhero movies take themselves as seriously as Morbius, and it’s so overly serious that it almost borders on parody. However, there is some comedy, which comes from FBI agent Alberto Rodriguez (Al Madrigal), and while not every joke lands, Madrigal does his best to inject as much of a lighthearted tone into his scenes as possible.

That’s the comedy actor’s MO, as he’s often cast in movies as the comic relief, and the best example of that is in The Map of Tiny Perfect Things. The movie’s title might not make its premise clear, but it’s a sci-fi romantic comedy that’s heavily influenced by Groundhog Day, as it follows two teenagers stuck repeating the same day over and over again. While there are tons of great time loop movies, Tiny Perfect Things is lowkey one of the most entertaining and overlooked.

5 Matt Smith – Official Secrets (2019) – 7.3

Stream On Netflix & AMC+

While Matt Smith is a popular and very successful actor, he has rarely taken roles outside of television. The TV format is where Smith thrives, whether it’s in Doctor Who, The Crown, or the upcoming epic drama, House of the Dragon. However, he has had major roles in several smaller-scale movies, with the best of them all being 2019’s Official Secrets.

The movie is based on real-life whistleblower Katherine Gun, who exposed an illegal spying operation between American and British intelligence. Smith plays British journalist Martin Bright, who worked with Gun to publish the leaked memo. It’s one of the rare, great instances where he doesn’t play a supernatural being like a living vampire, time-traveling alien, or dragon rider.

4 Tyrese Gibson – Fast Five (2011) – 7.3

Stream On Fubo TV

Tyrese Gibson is essentially only known for one role, but it’s a role that he has completely made his own. Roman Pierce (Gibson) is one of the most entertaining characters in the Fast & Furious series. And though all of the franchise’s characters have somehow become superspies and borderline superheroes, Rome is the one character who has remained consistent ever since his introduction in 2 Fast 2 Furious. He was and still is the smart-talking joker of the group, which is what makes him such a fan-favorite character.

2011’s Fast Five is both Gibson’s best movie and the best entry in the Fast series, as it changed things for the better. The film transformed the franchise from a street-racing crime series to a high-octane heist saga full of awe-inspiring action sequences. It was also the first movie that saw Dom’s “family” acting like a team, and it’s still the most entertaining film in the series to this day.

3 Jared Harris – The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button (2008) – 7.8

Stream On Paramount+ & Hoopla

While Jared Leto is the biggest and most famous actor in Morbius, Jared Harris is likely the movie’s best Jared. Harris gives an amazing performance as Dr. Emil Nicholas, Michael and Milo’s mentor and father figure, and he’s one of the reasons why Morbius isn’t as bad as critics say. And he’s also one of the best parts of The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.

From the mind of the visionary thriller director, David Fincher, Benjamin Button sits a little outside his comfort zone, as it’s a melodramatic period movie about a man who ages backward. Harris has a major role in the first act of the movie, as he plays the captain of the tugboat that Benjamin works on.

2 Michael Keaton – Spotlight (2015) – 8.1

Rent On Vudu

Michael Keaton’s appearance in the new 2022 movie is hugely controversial, as even though he was shown in the trailer, he is only introduced in the first post-credits scene. However, the actor still gives the most exciting performance in the movie, and it’s a testament to how entertaining Keaton is and how much range he has. Of every Morbius character, Keaton is by far the most seasoned and has the most classics under his belt. But his very best movie is surprisingly one of his most recent.

2015’s Spotlight is based on the true events of the Boston Globe Spotlight team exposing the Catholic Church’s attempt to cover up their priests’ child sex abuse. Keaton plays Walter Robinson, the head of the Spotlight team, and he was even nominated for Best Actor at the Academy Awards for the role. The Keaton-featuring Toy Story 3 is rated even higher with an average score of 8.3, but the actor’s role as Ken is so minor. He even has more screentime in the post-credits scenes in Morbius than he does in the 2010 animated movie.

1 Jared Leto – Fight Club (1999) – 8.8

Stream On Tubi

Jared Leto has always worked best as a supporting actor. Where many of his leading roles have been criticized, his supporting roles in movies like American Psycho and Panic Room have been praised to no end. And he even won Best Supporting Actor at the Academy Awards for his role in Dallas Buyers Club.

The actor’s best movie unsurprisingly sees him in another supporting role, as he plays Angel Face in the 1999 cult classic Fight Club. Angel Face is one of the characters who join Fight Club and then becomes a prominent member of the cult Project Mayhem. While Fight Club was critically scathed when it was first released 23 years ago, it is now considered one of the greatest movies of all time.
