NetherRealm Studios and WB Games say that Mortal Kombat 11 has now passed over 12 million copies sold worldwide. NetherRealm may have moved on from its latest fighting game in favor of its next big project, but fans all over the globe are still jumping into 2019’s blockbuster hit even two years later thanks to a stream of additional content and the draw of the recent live-action Mortal Kombat film.
Mortal Kombat 11 has officially sold over 12 million copies worldwide earlier today, adding up to a total of 73 million sold copies for the Mortal Kombat franchise overall. Following this, NetherRealm Studios Creative Director Ed Boon released an email press release thanking fans for their continued support over the years, stating that he and his studio have “some of the most passionate fans in the world, and we appreciate the support they have shown us over the years.”

Given the high praise that Mortal Kombat 11 received from fans and critics alike when it launched back in 2019 and the wealth of additional content NetherRelam brought to the game post-release, it should come as no surprise that MK 11 has been such a blockbuster success. Whatever NetherRealm may have planned for the future of the Mortal Kombat franchise, it’s pretty clear that the series that defined a generation of gamers is more popular than ever.

A graduate from York County School of Technology, he’s self-published several books on Amazon, and once won 1st place at a regional computer fair for a CGI animated short. He might post it on Youtube someday. He hopes that working for this site will be his first step into the larger universe of online writing, since Megazord technology hasn’t been invented yet and he doesn’t seem to have any Force powers.
