A talented cosplayer has skillfully recreated Johnny Cage’s look and personality from the Mortal Kombat series. NetherRealm’s long-running fighting game franchise has spawned countless memorable characters over the past 30 years, which in turn has inspired many well-made cosplays of fighters like Raiden, Sonya Blade, and even MK’s insect-like villainess D’Vorah.

One of the oldest and most popular members of Mortal Kombat’s ever-growing roster of warriors is the dashing Johnny Cage, who made his debut in the very first Mortal Kombat back in 1992. A struggling action movie star looking to gain some publicity, Johnny entered the titular Mortal Kombat tournament in hopes of proving his skills as a legitimate martial artist. From there, he would be caught up in the battle to protect Earthrealm from villains like Shao Khan and Shang Tsung, and even fell in love with fellow Kombatant and Special Forces operative Sonya Blade. In later Mortal Kombat games, Johnny would grow from a brash hothead with the martial arts skills to back up his boasts to a more level-headed (but still humorous) mentor to his daughter Cassie, but he has remained a fan-favorite throughout the Mortal Kombat franchise – so much so that his absence from this year’s live-action Mortal Kombat film was met with considerable outcry from longtime fans.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

Reddit user rinjoclans posted an impressive cosplay of Johnny Cage’s younger self from 2019’s Mortal Kombat 11 to r/MortalKombat a few days ago, performing a few of Johnny’s most noteworthy poses from the games while dressed in a stylish blue jacket, matching purple sunglasses, and customized silver championship belt with the name “Cage” emblazoned on the front. Rinjoclans even managed to include Johnny’s name tattoo on his chest, and other users have praised him in the comments section for skillfully capturing Johnny’s look and cocky attitude.

Johnny Cage’s last official appearance was in the aforementioned Mortal Kombat 11, where he teamed up with a past version of himself to save Earthrealm from The Keeper of Time, Kronika. While there has been no official confirmation that he will return in the upcoming Mortal Kombat 12, he’s a very likely candidate due to his popularity – as well as recent leaks suggesting that MK12’s roster will basically consist of all the Kombatants from the past three Mortal Kombat games. Other rumors imply that NetherRelam has been working on the next Mortal Kombat installment since it finished its support for MK 11 back in July, and that fans might get their first look at the new game in action during The Game Awards 2021 livestream this Thursday.

In the meantime, Mortal Kombat characters like Johnny Cage have continued to resonate with players over the past three decades, as evidenced by fans like rinjoclans skillfully capturing their iconic outfits in cosplay form. Rinjoclans might not be able to perform Johnny’s mystical Shadow Kick or conjure green energy bolts from his hands, but he can certainly pull off the style and swagger that fans love about Mortal Kombat’s resident action star-turned-defender of Earthrealm.
