When American comedy group Broken Lizard decided to create a comedy film about state patrol officers back in 2001, they had no idea that it would become a cult classic. Super Troopers—which revolves around the hilarious day-to-day activities of five Vermont state troopers— is regarded as one of the best comedy films of the 2000s.

A sequel languished in development hell for many years, so Broken Lizard decided to fund it themselves through crowdfunding site Indiegogo. In 2018, the sequel was finally released. The reception to it was good as well. However, the first film stands out more for its comical moments and quotes. The following are the funniest statements from the movie’s dialogue.

10 “Canada, Huh? Almost Made It.”

Trust Vermont State Police’s second commanding officer Thorny to spoil the fun for young college guys. He pulls them over for going at a speed of 63 yet the limit is 65 and asks them where they are headed.

One of the boys says they are heading to Canada to get some French fries and gravy, which is a lie. Thorny knows they are lying so he cuts their journey short. He tells them he’s glad they are going to Canada and that they were almost there but now the journey is over. He goes on to arrest them.

9 “Looks Who’s Talking ‘Denim Dan’! You Look Like The President And CEO Of Levi-Strauss!”

When Thorny shows up for a drinking session at the station wearing his uniform, Captain O’Hagan isn’t impressed. He calls him out and tells him that as the boss, he won’t allow such kind of poor fashion choices during moments of merriment.

Thorny fires back at O’Hagan who is rocking a denim suit. He lets him know that he shouldn’t even be talking about anyone’s fashion sense because he doesn’t even look good at all in what he is wearing. This prompts Captain O’Hara to inspect his jeans in a rather hilarious manner.

8 “I Swear To God I’ll Pistol Whip The Next Guy Who Says “Shenanigans.”

After discovering the word “shenanigans,” the junior troopers begin using it a bit too much in their conversations. This angers captain O’Hagan who states that he is going to hit the next person who says the word.

Trust Mac and Farva to ignore the warning. As soon as Cap says that, Mac asks Farva what the name of the restaurant with painted walls and mozzarella sticks is. Farva says it’s called shenanigans. The captain demands their weapons and as they offer them to him, they make funny faces and prepare to run.

7 “Do I Look Like A Cat To You? Am I Jumping Around All Nimbly Bimbly From Tree To Tree?”

While patrolling around the state, Foster and Mac pull a man over and decide what game to play while arresting him. Mac suggests that they play the ‘Cat Game,’ to which Foster agrees.

The game involves the officers making “meow” sounds after each statement. As soon as they begin playing, the man they’ve pulled over begins laughing. Foster asks him what he’s laughing at and he explains that it’s the sounds. In a classic case of imitating the Tommy Devito scene from Goodfellas, Foster insists that nothing is funny and begins harassing the man.

6 “When You Gotta Go, You Gotta Go.”

Captain O’Hagan has no shortage of crazy moments in the movie. On one occasion, he pulls over a man for a non-existent offense. After inspecting the car, he goes ahead to pee inside it.

The bemused man wonders why Cap is doing that, so he explains himself in the simplest manner. His bladder was full and he had to ‘go’ inside his car. There is no doubt that Cap could have found a better place to let his bladder loose. But finding another place would be so unlike him.

5 “Unit 91, Unit 91? C’mon Unit 91, Quit Counting Your Pubes We Have A Pursuit Out Here.”

Thorny and Rabbit pull over a group of potheads and force them to smoke all the weed they are carrying. During his conversation with them, a Mazda Miata speeds past them. This prompts the two officers to get into their vehicle and pursue him.

Farva makes a radio call to Foster aka Unit 91 but he doesn’t get a response at first. Angry, he hilariously tells Forster to stop counting his pubic hair because there is an urgent matter that needs his attention. Meanwhile, Foster has stepped away from his vehicle and gone fishing.

4 “It’s Afghanistanimation!”

After the boys discover illegal goods on a trailer with the Johnny Chimpo cartoon labeled on them, Cap can’t help but wonder what it means. Since the boys like the cartoon too, he asks them what they find funny in it.

Foster tells him that it’s basically an Afghani knock-off of Japanese anime. He explains that it’ about a monkey that moves around the world doing cheeky things while its butler tries to keep it in line. Rabbit exclaims, referring to it as Afghanistanimation. That’s probably one of the longest non-existent words in the world.

3 “License And Registration… Chicken F*cker.”

Farva pulls over an elderly couple and asks them for their documents, but not without an insult. Interestingly, Kevin Heffernan, who plays Farva, was talking to his real-life parents.

The couple he pulls over is actually played by his parents who badly wanted to be in the movie. Hefferman gave them a part, he just didn’t tell them that he’d be insulting them. Their surprised reactions were probably natural as they might not have expected such words to come out of their son’s mouth.

2 “The Snozzberries Taste Like Snozzberries.”

After they are ordered to pull over by Thorny, the college boys, who have drugs with them, realize they are in trouble. So, one of them has to consume it all himself.

This doesn’t end well for him. He becomes too high and while the boys are in the back of the police vehicle, he begins licking the dividing window, saying it tastes like snozzberries. His woes don’t end there as he stays high for several more hours and continues to make weird remarks.

1 “Mother Of God!”

Thorny says these words during the Mazda Miata incident. No sooner has he arrested the boys than the Mazda speeds past him. He is clearly shocked at the car’s speed as well as the driver’s guts.

He can’s believe that the man had the courage to speed past law enforcement officers like that. Quickly, he arrests the potheads, puts them in the police car, and begins pursuing the Mazda.
