The Moto G Power (2022) is one of the newest releases from Motorola, and for a $199 smartphone, the spec sheet has a decent amount to like. Mid and low-tier smartphones are always a tricky thing to juggle. Manufacturers obviously have to cut some corners to reach a low price, but if they cut out too much, they end up with a phone no one wants to buy — no matter how cheap it is.

This is something Motorola’s gotten very familiar with in recent years. The company’s smartphone portfolio now mostly consists of budget-minded devices. They may not be exciting competitors to the latest iPhone or Galaxy S, but they cater to a niche of people who need to buy phones that don’t break the bank. One of the latest examples of this is the Moto G Power (2022). It’s far from a perfect device, but looking at its specs-to-price ratio, it makes a lot of smart choices.

Let’s kick things off with the Moto G Power’s hardware. The phone is made out of plastic and has dimensions of 167.24 x 76.54 x 9.36mm. It also weighs 203g, making it almost the same weight as the iPhone 13 Pro. The Moto G Power (2022) has an IP52 rating for dust/water resistance, rear fingerprint sensor, USB-C charging port, 3.5mm headphone jack, and even has a microSD card slot for expandable storage. Taking up the front of the phone is a 6.5-inch ‘Max Vision’ LCD display. The 1600 x 720 HD+ resolution is pretty disappointing, though it is great to see a 90Hz refresh rate for increased fluidity.

Moto G Power (2022) Battery, Cameras, And Other Specs

Powering the Moto G Power (2022) is a MediaTek Helio G37 octa-core processor. It’s only the second Moto G in the United States with a MediaTek chipset, though it seems likely Motorola will release more MediaTek-powered phones as time goes on. Also present is 4GB of RAM, a choice between 64 or 128GB of internal storage, and a huge 5,000 mAh battery — allowing up to three days of use on a single charge. As impressive as that is, what’s less exciting is the Moto G Power’s maximum 10W charging speeds.

Then there are the cameras. The Moto G Power (2022) touts a 50MP primary camera with an f/1.8 aperture and 1.3μm pixels. It’s joined by 2MP macro and depth cameras on the back, both of which have f/2.4 apertures and 1.75μm pixels. The front-facing camera is an 8MP sensor with f/2.0 aperture and 1.12μm pixels. Regarding video recording, the rear and front cameras both support up to Full HD video at 30fps.

Let’s round things out with all of the G Power’s miscellaneous specs. This is a 4G LTE smartphone with no 5G connectivity of any kind. It also supports just one Nano SIM card, has Bluetooth 5.0, and does not have NFC support. As for the software, it ships with Android 11 out of the box and is promised just one update to Android 12. Things like poor update support and limited display resolution are tough roadblocks to get over, but if they don’t matter to you, the G Power (2022) is a respectable overall offering from Motorola.
