For decades, The Muppets have entertained fans all around the world with their wholesome messages, hilarious humor, and incredible musical numbers. In 1984’s The Muppets Take Manhattan, fans first glimpsed versions of these lovable characters as infants, and at that moment, history was made. A 2D series Muppet Babies aired from 1984 to 1991, before being rebooted with CGI animation in 2018.

The Disney-produced reboot follows the same core group of baby Muppets as the original series, but adds in many new characters along the way. The characters still have the same heart, still make the same kind of jokes, and still teach children and adult viewers alike important life lessons. But which of these adorable babies ranks the very best of them all?

10 Miss Piggy

Even though she might be one of the most iconic Muppets from the Jim Henson era, Miss Piggy is always the bossy one in the core Muppet group. That behavior is only intensified and made more obvious in a daycare setting, where she is frequently scolded for her selfishness and complains about people not doing things the way that she wants them to.

Baby Miss Piggy does have some redeeming qualities, especially in her budding friendship with the Summer Penguin, and of course, in some sweet moments that she shares with Baby Kermit. But overall, Miss Piggy is definitely in need of a timeout.

9 Rowlf The Dog

What is there not to love about Rowlf? A gifted pianist, even as a toddler, Rowlf is always sure to bring the music when he visits the daycare, which is something that always makes the Muppets better. Even though he’s just a little puppy at this point, Rowlf still feels like more of an adult than the other kids.

He is a great source of wisdom and humor both, still getting in some signature wry Rowlf commentary along the way. Plus, how cute is the Baby Rowlf design? It’s impossible to not want to give this good boy and his fluffy, floppy ears all the pets and treats.

8 Robin

Robin gets a bigger role in the Muppet Babies reboot than he had in the original 2D animated series, and that is definitely a good thing. Kermit’s nephew is even more adorable than usual as a polliwog, sporting a flashy tail and the cutest little suspenders.

In a series already filled with babies, Robin adds another layer of innocence and a character for all of the toddlers to protect and play with. He is one of the cutest characters in the series for sure, even if he’s not one of its main cast members.

7 Summer Penguin

Summer Penguin is a new addition to the Muppets universe as a result of the Muppet Babies reboot. Although reactions to her character were mixed to start, Summer has clearly shown herself to be a fine addition to the group and a real leader at times, too.

Although she sometimes has her own bossy streak, Summer is genuinely someone who cares about her friends and their adventures. She loves art projects and solving mysteries, which makes her a natural secondary leader in the daycare when Kermit is otherwise busy.

6 Rozzie Bear

Yet another character introduced to the Muppets canon is also one of the series’ smallest characters: the impossibly adorable Rozzie Bear. Introduced in season 3, Rozzie is a koala bear and, naturally, Fozzie’s adopted little sister.

Rozzie is constantly following her big brother around, but never in an annoying way, unlike some other bad siblings in Disney canon. She looks up to her brother and wants to be part of his world, getting along with all of his friends and fitting in perfectly in the established series’ universe.

5 Fozzie Bear

Speaking of lovable Muppet bears, who could possibly be more lovable than the famous Fozzie Bear himself? Even as a toddler, Fozzie is a true comedian, and his jokes are still completely corny and not always a success. His friendship with Kermit is even more pronounced in these baby adventures, which makes their interactions even sweeter.

In some ways, the Fozzie of the Muppet Babies reboot feels more like a Chuckie Finster type than Chuckie does in the very different Rugrats reboot. Fozzie has many fears and feelings that he learns how to deal with across the series, which makes him a great character who children can learn from.

4 Rizzo The Rat

Even though he has been unfairly ignored in recent Muppet productions, Rizzo the Rat gets his true time to shine in the world of Muppet Babies. Originally just a briefly recurring player, Rizzo has taken on more significant roles in recent episodes, including ones that highlight his bond with Gonzo as the Muppet movies of the 1990s and 2000s did.

True to his older self, Rizzo is still an absolute schemer and troublemaker, posing as the Tooth Fairy in one episode and running for Mayor of the playroom the next. Rizzo always has something up his sleeve, whether it’s a sneaky plan or a snack he’s saving for later.

3 Animal

Animal is definitely one of the most trouble-making Muppets when in live-action form, but in the world of Muppet Babies, he definitely gets softened quite a bit. There are still many occasions when Animal causes trouble, whether in the playroom, the backyard, or on field trips.

But this Animal is much sweeter overall. He has a deep love of his stuffed animal friend, Buddy the bunny rabbit, and is often surprisingly shy. He constantly wants to play with and be accepted by his peers, even when he struggles with some bad behavior, like temper tantrums or refusing to bathe.

2 Kermit The Frog

Out of all the characters Jim Henson created, there is no questioning the fact that Kermit the Frog is his most famous and most beloved. In the world of Muppet Babies, Kermit is still the protagonist, the anxious and people-pleasing frog who finds himself in a leadership role more often than not.

Equipped with his tiny banjo and many adorable costumes, Kermit leads all of the babies and toddlers on their many adventures throughout the playroom and backyard, teaching them valuable lessons along the way. The baby Kermit memes that have overtaken social media exist for a reason, after all: he’s just too darn cute not to love.

1 Gonzo The Great

Gonzo the Great is a character who has always drawn attention and acclaim for how unabashedly weird he is. As a proud “whatever,” Gonzo is blissfully just as strange as he ever has been in Muppet Babies. His favorite toy is a potato, called Potato. He hangs out with three round little chickens, Camilla (his future girlfriend), Priscilla, and Beep.

He has a supervillain alter ego, Dr. Meanzo, in sequences where many of the Muppets take on heroic turns. And time and again, he pushes the boundaries of the norms imposed upon him by the world, including in the very famous and touching episode “Gonzo-rella,” where he expresses his desire to dress as a princess.
