The quirky students of My Hero Academia have proven time and time again they can take on any villain that tries to mess with them. Having faced off against some fearsome enemies, especially in the recent Paranormal Liberation War, the class 1-A students and their pro-hero mentors are clearly powerful. However, there is one villain that may be able to take them all down for good…and he is about to make a dramatic return.

All For One, a villain capable of stealing quirks and transferring them to others, first appeared in chapter 59 of the manga when pro-hero All Might explained the origin of his quirk to a younger Izuku Midoriya. It is later revealed that All For One is the villain responsible for injuring All Might in a violent fight. He may be the only one with a clear ability to defeat the world’s number one hero. Throughout the manga series, All For One has been somewhat of a puppet master for the events unfolding around the heroes. By founding the League of Villains, he has been able to hold control over the city’s villainy, even from his supervised prison cell.

While imprisoned, All For One has been manipulating League of Villains leader Tomura Shigaraki to do his own dirty work. Of course, Tomura Shigaraki is by not “good” by any means. He is still responsible for countless deaths and reckless destruction. However, protagonist Izuku Midoriya (aka Deku) can see beyond the intimidating quirk to see the real villain behind the violence: All For One. It’s his prison cell, however, that has kept him from overthrowing the hero industry completely.

Chapter 297 of the manga quite literally breaks this dangerous villain out from his cage. The final panel of this chapter, titled Tartarus, depicts Tomura Shigaraki paying a visit to the Counterquirk Maximum Security Prison (aka Tartarus). Now completely under the control of All For One, Shigaraki makes his way through the highly secure prison. Leaving destruction in his wake, he finds All For One’s cell. The entire ordeal made a prison break look like a training mission. Between Shigaraki’s powerful quirk “decay” and All For One’s mastermind thinking, the greatest villain of the series has finally made his escape.

In this final panel, All For One announces his ultimate goal. He claims this escape will be the beginning of a new era, and that it will see him become the greatest demon lord of all time. This tyrannical title insinuates a significant rise in power for All For One. Considering he already seems to be the most terrifying villain in My Hero Academia, the idea of him becoming even stronger is unimaginable. He has already managed to take down a chunk of the hero force within the confinement of a cell. What impact will the psychopathic antagonist have on the series now that his capacity for destruction seems limitless? Though Midoriya has become stronger than ever in recent chapters, his quirk was almost lost as a result of All For One and Shigaraki’s power back in chapter 286. He will have to rise to the occasion in order to stop this evil force from destroying the world as he knows it.
