Warning: spoilers ahead for My Hero Academia chapter 347!

Himiko Toga is finally battling her crush Deku and BFF-hopeful Ochako Uraraka in My Hero Academia. And in what is truly the best complement to how her quirk functions, Himiko’s feelings for Deku are giving her a shocking advantage.

Acting in true Himiko fashion, the highly ecstatic and overly expressive villain attempts to slash Deku with her knife while announcing her love for him in chapter 347. But despite this obvious attempt on his life, Deku’s Danger-Sense isn’t activated – all because her feelings for him are so powerful, she doesn’t register as a threat even as she’s attacking.

This is the perfect development for Himiko’s character. Himiko’s quirk becomes stronger whenever she cares deeply for the victim whose blood she sucks. This odd phenomenon is directly correlated to why Himiko feels especially compelled to suck certain people’s blood in the first place. Due to some deep, twisted desire that lives within her, Himiko literally craves to become the people she cares deeply for, and since her Transform quirk allows her to assume the form of those whose blood she feeds on, Himiko can achieve this desire via her quirk. When she has especially deep feelings for a certain person, the villain will also obtain their quirk, which first happened when she sucked Ochako Uraraka’s blood during the Paranormal Liberation War. It turns out that even as her obsessive love for Deku drives her to attack him, the fact that it emerges from intense adoration tricks his own Danger-Sense.

Before chapter 347, Himiko’s strong feelings for Ochako gave Himiko’s Transform quirk an offensive quality for the first time when it had largely been defensive up until that point, mainly used as a means to trick her opponents. But now the villain’s desire to make Deku her boyfriend is augmenting her offensive capabilities even further while simultaneously lowering his own defenses. Although Himiko’s ability to override Deku’s Danger-Sense makes her an even more intriguing character than she already was, what most fans are waiting for isn’t actually how Himiko’s obsession with Deku will unfold in battle.

Fans want to see her reunion with Ochako Uraraka, based on how thoroughly the hero stomped all over Himiko’s feelings during the Paranormal Liberation War. Himiko was clearly devastated by Ochako’s reaction when she confessed to the hero the reason why she had acquired her Zero Gravity quirk. My Hero Academia recently saw Ochako share how that day continues to haunt her, but the villain’s actions either prove that she somehow moved on from the experience or is repressing her original feelings.

My Hero Academia readers are undoubtedly a little on edge about Himiko’s possible ambivalence or even complete disregard of Ochako, especially since fans were so deeply moved by how badly Ochako’s vehement rejection hurt her. Fans have been anxiously waiting for when Himiko would inevitably have to deal with how much Ochako rejected her before, but now that there’s a slight chance Himiko no longer cares – a disturbing and upsetting outcome to her story so far. Hopefully, there’s another twist coming in Toga‘s story as My Hero Academia reaches its end, but Deku will have to survive her onslaught first.
