Do you know your Myers-Briggs® type? Well, just as there is a personality type for everyone, there is a Game of Thrones house for everyone. George R.R. Martin offers quite a few more options than say, the school houses in Harry Potter, but that makes this sorting all the more interesting.

Would you fit in with the power-hungry Lannisters or are you noble and true like the Starks? Perhaps family is the most important thing to you and the Tullys of Riverrun would suit you better. We are here to find out.

10 Arryn—ISTJ

Ah yes, the Arryn’s of the Vale. That poor family that was manipulated to its own doom by Littlefinger. They were always isolationists, behind their walls in the Eyrie. That’s why they’d be energized by time spent alone, like any ISTJ. We offer them a focus on facts (rather than emotions) based on husband Jon Arryn rather than on wife Lysa Tully. They also certainly use their military might wisely, turning the tide of many a conflict wisely and not running in for no apparent reason.

9 Baratheon—ENFP

Extroverts for sure, let us recall that each of the Baratheon brothers called themself king at some point in Game of Thrones. It takes a lot of extroversion, and a certain amount of egotism to do that. Renly and Robert, at least, are also popular, as many ENFPs tend to be, and they know how to have a good time. Like the Baratheons ENFPs have good people skills (although Robert may have used his up long before we meet him on the page or screen). Sometimes known as “campaigners” the Baratheons fit the bill.

8 Greyjoy—ESTP/ISTP

In the Greyjoy family there seem to extroverts and introverts (Euron vs. his brother Balon for example). ESTPs, like Euron, are known for being particularly bold as well as direct and original. ISTPs, like Balon, are more spontaneous while also being rational (the Greyjoy rebellion failed, but Balon had obviously been stewing about it for a while). ISTPs, like Yara, are also very good in a crisis. They’ve made their plans and know how to relax.

7 Lannister—ENTJ/INTJ

The Lannisters, like the Greyjoys, have both extroverts and introverts in their ranks. Jaime can easily go out in front of a crowd, Tyrion, on the other hand, has always stuck more to his books and his brains.

Whether extroverted or introverted, Lannisters are strategic leaders, who look for new solutions and take charge of long-range strategies (Tywin, of course). Like Tyrion, ENTJ and INTJs are quick-witted and articulate.

6 Martell—ESFP/ISFP

Oberyn and Doran, the brothers of House Martell, the extroverted ladies man, and the introverted monarch. Charming and passionate seems to cover all of the known characters from House Martell. However, as apparent when Oberyn takes on the Mountain in a trial by combat, Martell members, like their MBTi counterparts, can be unpredictable. Bold and showy, House Martell, despite their feud with the Lannisters, seem to have pretty decent people skills overall. Oberyn and Tyrion certainly get along.

5 Mormont—INFJ

House Mormont, “Here We Stand” would certainly be home to the rarest of the Myers Briggs personality types. Who but the Mormonts have been loyal (eventually) to all the oaths they’ve made. INFJs, like Jeor, Jorah, and Lyanna, all have a strong sense of personal integrity and a drive to assist others in reaching their potential (Jorah and Dany anyone?). They show a particular talent for helping others and have great dedication (just see Jeor with the Night’s Watch and Lyanna with everyone). They are also good at reading others emotions and needs.

4 Stark—ENTP/INTP

Robb is an extrovert, his father an introvert, but all Starks seem to be good at obtaining and holding knowledge. While Robb and Sansa may hold the charisma of an ENTP, Ned and Bran have the quiet and analytical mind of the INTP. Ned, and even Jon to an extent, enjoy spending time alone, they want to fully understand how things work. What INTP and ENTPs often ignore are practical matters. Honor above wise decisions makes a lot more sense now.

3 Targaryen—ENFJ

Daenerys and Viserys would both be extroverts, they get energy by spending time with people, but getting attention. They obsess over ideas to the detriment of the facts that may actually surround them and thus make decisions based on how they feel and what they want.

However, ENFJs (at least in Daenerys’ case) also prefer to plan in advance rather than walking into a situation with no backup or plan to begin with. It takes a very special person to balance out a Targaryen.

2 Tully-ESTJ

The Tullys of Riverrun who honor family above all else would be a great house to join for any ESTJ. The Tullys (except perhaps for Edmure) are all strong-willed, dedicated, loyal, and well organized. Catelyn certainly had to be to wrangle so many children. The problem with ESTJs (and the Tullys) is that they can also be very judgmental, and uncomfortable in new situations. That means Catelyn deserves everyone’s respect for making a life for herself at Winterfell.

1 Tyrell—ESFJ

Loras, Margaery, and Olenna all are energized by being with other people (both Loras and Margaery enjoy status and attention). Olenna fully embraces the “sensing” side of the ESFJ life as she focuses on details and facts, always. Like the Tyrell family, ESFJs are not terribly flexible, rather they are organized and have always planned in advance. It’s not a bad place to be if you value knowing what’s coming.
