Few X-Men characters are as big of a badass in comics as Mystique, and in a new cosplay from @graciecosplays and @patloika, the sometimes villain/sometimes hero’s gets an absurdly impressive comic-accurate cover recreation. In an epic image, the talented creatives brought Carlos Pacheco’s iconic Mystique cover from Astonishing X-Men by Marvel Comics to life, resulting in a superb cosplay and photo that is ripped right from the comics.

Raven Darkhölme, better known as Mystique, was created by Chris Claremont and Dave Cockrum, first appearing in Ms. Marvel’s ongoing series in the late 1970s. Mostly portrayed as an X-Men villain, Mystique has the mutant powers to shapeshift and change her appearance as she pleases. As a result, Mystique’s been a thorn in the side of both the X-Men and the Avengers as she regularly uses her transformation powers to sneak into places she shouldn’t be and gain intel from her greatest adversaries. Most recently, Mystique played a considerable role in the recent Inferno event, where she reunited with her longtime partner, Destiny. The character has been portrayed twice in live-action, first by Rebecca Romijn in the original X-Men trilogy and later by Jennifer Lawrence in the most recent films.

On his Twitter account, Pat Lokia (@patloika) shared his most recent shoot with Graciethecosplaylass (@graciecosplay), where they recreated an excellent Mystique cover from Carlos Pacheco. On the cover which originally appeared on Astonishing X-Men #4 (2017), the skull-wearing Mystique sits on a throne of skulls as the badass enjoys a glass of campaign. The cosplay recreates Mystique’s most iconic costume, as well as the villain’s blue skin and red hair. In a brilliant bit of photo editing, the skull throne is paired with the real-life image and looks absolutely legit. It’s an incredible combination of cosplay talent and photo editing.

Loika shared a closer look at the image on his Instagram page.

Graciethecosplaylass is one of the best in the business, which is evident from some of her previous cosplay recreations, including Atom Eve from Invincible. Pat Loika also is a cosplay mega-talent, as he’s the creative force behind some incredible photoshoots and edits, such as his new X-Men team ensemble from last year.

The badass Mystique cosplay could appear on the cover of an upcoming comic and nobody would bat an eye, it’s that impressive. Pacheco’s original X-Men cover was amazing and with the cosplay and photo edit, Mystique looks just as cool when brought to life.
