The Mythic Quest season 2 trailer is here, giving fans a look at the next installment of Rob McElhenney’s video game development sitcom. Season 1 of the show, which starred McElhenney, Ashly Burch, Jessie Ennis, Imani Hakim, David Hornsby, Charlotte Nicdao, Danny Pudi, and F. Murray Abraham, released on Apple TV+ to favorable reviews. Season 2 of Mythic Quest premieres on the streamer on May 7.

Mythic Quest follows the developments studio of the eponymous video game, a hugely popular MMORPG clearly inspired by World of Warcraft. McElhenney plays Ian Grimm, the studio’s creative director, and most episodes focus on some element of the ongoing development and marketing of the game. Mythic Quest uses many of the classic conceits of the workplace sitcom genre, combined with some light touches of McElhenney’s It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia style and a dramatized look at the world of video game development.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

The Mythic Quest season 2 trailer is out, and it looks like fans can expect more of the same office antics and game industry jabs. Ian and Poppy are in full swing as co-creative directors, and development on the game’s next expansion is in progress. Of course, nothing quite goes as planned in Mythic Quest, and the trailer shows plenty of comical dilemmas for the team to face, both personal and professional. Also, Snoop Dogg shows up. Season 2 arrives on May 7 with a two-part premiere, preceded by a special standalone episode called “Everlight” on April 16. Watch the Mythic Quest season 2 trailer below.

As the streaming marketplace continues to get even more crowded, Apple TV+ will rely on originals like Mythic Quest to hold a space for itself. Despite shows like Ted Lasso and Dickinson receiving high praise, the platform has failed to capture the kind of zeitgeist other newcomers like HBO Max and Disney+ have cultivated. Part of that is due to Apple’s lack of major franchises – an asset that’s been critical for the streaming plans of Disney, Warner Bros., and ViacomCBS. A January report stated that only 38% of Apple TV+ subscribers were paying for their subscriptions and that all other users were on free trials with a questionable likelihood of re-upping out of pocket.

Of course, that doesn’t mean that Apple TV+ hasn’t collected some strong content offerings since its inception. Mythic Quest itself has been well-received, currently holding an impressive 89 percent on Rotten Tomatoes. With luck, the show can carry that success into its second season as well. Mythic Quest season 2 begins airing on Apple TV+ on May 7, following the special standalone episode “Everlight” on April 16.
