The CW’s Nancy Drew is never short on adventures, tragedy, heartbreak, friendship, and mysteries. Season 1 started off strong with several suspicious characters appearing alongside mysteries that Nancy comes out of retirement to solve, but she also had some life lessons and relationships to learn from. Nancy was initially with Nick, and while their relationship worked in certain ways, it was lacking in others.

Nancy had stronger chemistry and more of an inclination to be in a serious relationship when Owen came along, and though that relationship ended too soon due to Owen’s murder, Nancy and Owen were happy together while it lasted.

10 Nancy & Nick: They Made Each Other Feel Better

Everyone needs a distraction from the realities of life sometimes, and Nancy and Ned helped one another do that. Nancy was still struggling following the death of her mother and Nick was trying to get a new start after having been in jail; they both needed a break from reality, and they made one another happy. Their friendship meant something to them, even post-break-up.

9 Nancy & Owen: They Were On Their Way To Being Exclusive

Owen’s murder prematurely ended his and Nancy’s blossoming relationship. It was obvious to audiences, however, that Nancy’s relationship with him was heading somewhere, and that they would inevitably become an exclusive item. It would’ve been different for Nancy, compared to her previous relationship with Nick, as that was a more casual relationship than what she had with Owen. It’s sad that it was cut off too soon, because their relationship really did hold potential, and would’ve made both Nancy and Owen happy.

8 Nancy & Nick: No Strings Attached

Nancy and Nick’s relationship wasn’t really serious. They had no strings attached, which decreased pressure on either one of them to do more or be more for the other person. They didn’t have to worry about any extras; they were just there for one another and that was enough.

They eventually broke up because Nancy was pushing him away, clearly not wanting to take their relationship to the next level or deal with the pressure that came with it.

7 Nancy & Owen: Their Chemistry

Nancy and Nick’s relationship lacked a certain passion. When Nancy was with Owen, there was a more obvious spark between them that really showed their chemistry and how they felt about one another. They got along well and they clearly felt something for one another; their chemistry was great and it would’ve been fun to see that chemistry build, had Owen not been murdered.

6 Nancy & Nick: Both Had Been Through A Lot

Nick was unfortunately involved in a fight that led to the death of his opponent and subsequently, Nick landed in jail. Nancy had just lost her mother and was feeling lost when the series began. The two of them are young but had been through more than most people had at their age, and they were good together because, to a certain degree, they had to grow up quickly following their hardships, and they could understand that about one another.

5 Nancy & Owen: Owen Willingly Risked His Life For Her

Owen was nearly killed by the Aglaeca while he, Nancy, and the rest of the Drew Crew were summoning it so Nancy could get Lucy’s bones, which in turn would free Carson. Nick was there too, but Owen hadn’t known Nancy as long as Nick had, and it really showed how much he cared for Nancy, and how far he was willing to go to help her out.

Owen was really selfless in that regard, and it was good for Nancy to have that support from him.

4 Nancy & Nick: They Were Good As Friends

Nancy and Nick had an easy rapport as friends. They worked on mysteries alongside the rest of the Drew Crew and enjoyed being around one another. Even after they broke up, they could still be in the same room, and still remained friends. As it turns out, they are better friends than significant others anyway, and everything worked out the way that it was supposed to.

3 Nancy & Owen: Nancy’s Grief

Upon finding out that Owen was murdered, Nancy took it hard and naturally dove into solving the murder. She also harbored guilt, thinking the Aglaeca had taken him, but it turns out that Joshua, Nancy’s biological uncle, had killed Owen. Still, Nancy already had a lot on her plate and losing Owen, who obviously meant a lot to her, was devastating, her grief clearly emphasizing how much she wanted Owen and a future with him. Her dedication to doing what she can to solve his murder and give him justice shows how far Nancy would go to help him, and it’s sad that she didn’t get a chance to come through for him more when he was alive.

2 Nancy & Nick: They Believed In One Another

Nancy and Nick believed in one another; they always have, and they still do. Nancy helped pull the suspicion off of Nick following the murder of Tiffany Hudson, and Nick has been there when Nancy needed him most, whether she needed help with a mystery or required a rescue.

Whatever the situation, Nancy and Nick have each other’s backs through thick and thin.

1 Nancy & Owen: They Were Headed For A Serious Relationship

Nancy and Owen had strong and mutual feelings for one another. Unlike when she was with Nick, Nancy wanted to take things farther with Owen, and vice versa. They were headed down the road to a serious and committed relationship, which makes it that much more devastating that they never got to do that. The two were really happy together, and they were ready to make the commitment and see where their relationship went, and, judging by the way things were going, it looked like it could’ve been meant to be.
