Assassin’s Creed Valhalla‘s crossover stories expansion saw the return of Kassandra, the protagonist of Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, which may pave the way for her to become the series’ new Ezio. The release of crossover stories has the potential to propel Kassandra into being an even more influential character in the Assassin’s Creed universe. The fan-favorite eagle-bearer was confirmed to be essentially an immortal being from 422 BCE until around 2018 CE, when she passed the staff of Hermes to the game’s modern-day protagonist, Layla.

Kassandra was one of Assassin’s Creed‘s best protagonists. Her story showed the origins of the order that would become the antagonistic Templars and her perseverance through struggle and pain made her an extremely likable and well-rounded character. Many fans loved her as she was one of the first canonical female protagonists who was featured in their own game. Before Odyssey, the series only saw Assassin’s Creed Syndicate‘s Evie Frye, who was playable alongside her brother Jacob, and Aveline, who initially featured in Assassin’s Creed III: Liberation.

As Ubisoft wraps up the finishing touches on Assassin’s Creed Valhalla‘s Dawn of Ragnarok DLC, many fans have speculated where the future of the franchise will go. With crossover stories being a thing now, that future could likely be seen in Kassandra. The spartan warrior has now been featured in two games, and will likely be seen in more, with her immortality coming into play in the series. She could even appear as a key character as early as the next game in the series, Assassin’s Creed Infinity.

After Kassandra gains the power of the staff of Hermes, she traverses the planet, helping Hidden Ones all around the world and searching for Pieces of Eden, items of immense power found throughout the Assassin’s Creed timeline. One of her many adventures can be seen in Valhalla‘s crossover stories, where she and Eivor must find a Piece of Eden that has been causing nightmares to the villagers residing in a settlement. The Piece of Eden in question turns out to be an Apple of Eden, one of the key items primarily found in Ezio and Altair’s story.

Valhalla‘s crossover story is the most recent expansion that features Kassandra in the series. However, with the announcement of Assassin’s Creed Infinity, an upcoming live-service game, fans may get to see Kassandra once again. According to a recent leak, Assassin’s Creed Infinity will feature semi-open world – Hitman-like areas with assassination missions scattered throughout different periods in time. It will also feature remade missions from previous games featuring previous assassins. Seeing how Kassandra is alive for the events of basically every single Assassin’s Creed game, it seems possible that she could be the main character in connecting each of these events and characters together.

Kassandra Could Have Her Own Ezio-Style Assassin’s Creed Trilogy

Although Assassin’s CreedInfinity‘s new story is in the works, that does not exactly mean Ubisoft has plans to stop releasing games focused on a single narrative. After Infinity is released, it’s entirely possible for a new trilogy focused on Kassandra and her adventures, similar to Ezio’s trilogy back in the early days of the series. The trilogy has the potential to create a new and unique approach to the story that has never been done before in the series: following the same character throughout different periods in time.

Besides Ezio, Assassin’s Creed has told the story of a different character in a different era in every single game. A brand new trilogy focused on a wandering immortal who must help the Hidden Ones and find Pieces of Eden would be an interesting story to tell, especially taking into consideration how many fans have been hoping for a “new Ezio” to come around in the series. Seeing how a leak claims that Infinity isn’t the end of regular Assassin’s Creed games, a new trilogy focused on Kassandra seems likely.

Kassandra’s Trilogy Could Bring Back Iconic Assassin’s Creed Heroes

A trilogy focused on Kassandra has the potential to see the return of many fan favorites. Iconic assassins like Bayek, Ezio, and Edward Kenway could totally make an appearance in this hypothetical trilogy, helping Kassandra in her travels around the world each game. Each game could be set in a different time period, and showcase what a previous assassin living in that era was doing after the events of their story. Many fans have been asking for follow-up games for certain characters whose stories never really felt like they truly ended, like Origins‘ Bayek of Siwa. A Kassandra trilogy could wrap up loose ends for those characters while telling Kassandra’s story in that time period.

From the rushed end of Desmond’s story back in Assassin’s Creed 3 to Layla’s convoluted narrative in the new trilogy, it feels as if Ubisoft is having trouble connecting all the pieces together in the series’ present-day setting. Kassandra can help fix this issue. In Assassin’s Creed lore, Kassandra is alive from 422 BCE to 2018 CE. In her own trilogy, she could serve also as a modern-day protagonist. The story of each game could show what she is up to in the less violent modern era and flashback to her past memories. This would help balance both stories and could even tie up loose ends left behind by Desmond and Layla’s plots.

Kassandra’s present-day story could even connect the series to other Ubisoft games. Watch Dogs and Assassin’s Creed have a history of crossing over with one another, the most notable case being Darcy, a playable character in Watch Dogs: Legion who is an assassin. Kassandra’s modern-day story could focus on her taking down Abstergo, meeting characters from DedSec in the process. Although highly improbable, this is a fun possibility that could delight fans of both series.

Kassandra is a complex and interesting character in the Assassin’s Creed universe, and Ubisoft needs to use her more in its storytelling. She has the potential to be the next Ezio and could help branch the series to new limits it could not reach before. She can even help fix the modern-day storytelling problem the series suffers from to this day. Whether it be in the upcoming game, Assassin’s Creed Infinity, her own trilogy, or even in another Assassin’s Creed Valhalla DLC, Kassandra’s story is far from being over.
