FOX’s hit primetime comedy, New Girl is most well known for its quirky cast of characters both as series regulars and in supporting roles. It seems that every character on the series was written so specifically and tailored so well to each storyline, it really was such a wonderfully crafted show.

Most of the characters were well-loved and now missed by the entire fan base. Of course, as it is with every television show that lasts for a successful seven seasons, there tends to be a couple of characters who don’t resonate as well with audiences or critics. Here is a list of characters, who most fans would agree, get under everybody’s skin.

10 Annoying: Schmidt

Schmidt, as lovable as he is, is also very, very annoying. If Schmidt isn’t talking about himself, he’s probably complaining about somebody else or cleaning something and making sure everyone knows about the work he’s doing. Living with Schmidt seems really annoying, but Jess, Nick, and Winston seem to tolerate their roommate very well. Admittedly, Schmidt does have some hysterical moments that usually make up for his obnoxious behavior.

9 Hated: Fawn

This whole storyline wasn’t a fan favorite. Schmidt starts dating Fawn after his break up with Cece, and at first, it seems like a match made in heaven because Fawn is a well-known local politician and Schmidt is a Romney-wannabe.

As soon as Fawn starts using her relationship with Schmidt to gain public approval, she goes from disliked to hated pretty quickly. Thank goodness, Schmidt comes to his senses before it’s too late and Fawn is no longer welcome in the loft.

8 Annoying: Coach

It seems Coach just couldn’t make up his mind about where he was living and came and went a lot during his time on the series. Whenever Coach showed up, an argument about whose room was whose began and everything that made it easy for Jess, Nick, Schmidt, and Winston to cohabitate shifted and had to readjust to accommodate a fifth roommate. The roommates loved Coach, so they were always happy to adjust for him, but fans just wanted him to pick a place to be.

7 Hated: Reagan

When Jess was sequestered for jury duty for eight weeks, Reagan came into sublet her room and ended up overstaying her welcome when she started dating Nick.

Reagan was cold and kind of mean and didn’t make a very good first impression. Nick seemed to fall for her quickly, which furthered fans’ disdain for the character because everyone knew that Nick and Jess were meant to be together and Reagan was just getting in the way of that.

6 Annoying: Aly

Aly was another somewhat stand-offish character that didn’t make a great first impression. Winston met Aly once he became a police officer. The two were partners on the force and it’s safe to say Winston played the “good cop” and Aly played the “bad cop”. Aly was a no-nonsense type of officer and made Winston keep their relationship a secret for a while. Her hard nature was initially pretty annoying, but viewers did warm up to her as her relationship with Winston progressed.

5 Hated: Paul

Paul was a love interest for Jess early on in the series. He seemed to be the male version of everyone’s favorite leading lady but got more and more obnoxious as the episodes played on.

Paul meant well, but couldn’t really read a room and seemed to annoy just about everyone in the loft except for Jess. Fans were just as relieved as Nick, Schmidt, and Winston when Jess finally called it quits on this relationship.

4 Annoying: Nadia

Nadia never had much to contribute to the group’s conversation, though her quirky one-liners always delivered a laugh. She didn’t get along with any of Cece’s friends, mostly because she didn’t try and didn’t really care to try. Nadia’s self-centered attitude was definitely annoying for fans to sit through and most of the time, her funny moments didn’t make up for her lack of awareness.

3 Hated: Abby

Abby, Jess’ older sister, came in like a hurricane. Jess admits that Abby is a bit of a loose cannon, but still picks her up from jail and lets her stay in the loft while she “gets on her feet”.

Abby and Schmidt briefly start dating, sending Jess into a spiral because her goal was to get her mess of a sister out of the loft quickly. Luckily, Jess gets what she wants and Abby leaves before she can cause too much damage to Jess and her roommates.

2 Annoying: Sam

Sam jerked Jess around a lot and it was pretty annoying for fans to sit back and watch, especially considering everything Jess had already been through by the time Sam comes into the picture. Sam seems perfect on the outside. He’s attractive, charming, a doctor, but he’s also afraid to commit and leaves Jess in limbo a lot. Even once Sam comes to his senses and he and Jess are exclusive, it’s too late because, at that point, fans are rooting for Nick and Jess to be together.

1 Hated: Schmidt 2

This series is known for its Thanksgiving episodes. It’s the episode each season fans looked forward to most and one of them is almost ruined when we meet Schmidt’s cousin, also named Schmidt. It’s like Schmidt on steroids. The competitive, egotistical nature of this character is so present and his points of view are so wrong, it’s actually pretty funny to watch him interact with everyone and make a fool of himself. The fact that viewers can laugh at him makes him a little less hatable, but that’s not saying much.
