The latest Minecraft snapshot, 22W14A, recently went live and introduces the transformative Recovery Compass, an all-new feature that guides players to the spot where they died. Snapshot releases for Minecraft essentially serve as testing grounds for unfinished additions to the game. Those who participate in the testing of these unrefined mechanics are tasked with sharing feedback and glitch-related reports. One recent snapshot, for example, allowed users to explore the Deep Dark biome scheduled to release alongside the Wild Update (Patch 1.19).

Mojang Studios unleashed the first 1.19 snapshot in February, introducing players to sculk blocks, Warden mob, Ancient City biome, and the Swift Sneak enchantment. When Mojang plans on rolling out the Wild Update itself presently remains unknown, though Minecraft faithful can at least expect the new content to go live sometime this year. In addition to the above, Minecraft’s long-awaited Wild Update will also include mud, Mangrove Swamp biome, frogs, fireflies, boats with chests, the allay mob, and Mangrove trees. The newest snapshot hints at another game-changing addition to Mojang Studios’ sandbox experience, as well.

Recently, Mojang Studios (via PCGamesN) rolled out Minecraft snapshot 22W14A, unlocking access to a slew of new features. Chief among said additions is the Recovery Compass, which points players to the last place they died. This item should make retrieving lost loot far simpler, though players must remember not to carry the Recovery Compass on their person, lest it, too, gets left behind following an untimely death. Echo Shards, another new addition, are used to make the Compass and can only be found in Ancient Cities. The 22W14A snapshot’s other fresh arrivals include Mangrove Trees, Clay renewability, and Minecraft’s Mangrove Swamp biome.

The advent of a Recovery Compass should prove quite transformative when it launches alongside the Wild Update. At the time of writing, however, Mojang Studios has yet to put a firm due date on the eagerly-anticipated Minecraft patch. Fortnuately, the snapshots in recent weeks suggest the update will be well worth the wait in the end.

Minecraft received two major expansions last year – Caves and Cliffs Part 1 and Part 2. The first part launched in June 2021, bringing new plants, creatures, and miscellaneous blocks to the sandbox experience. Caves and Cliffs Part 2 offered the most extensive changes; notably, it launched in late November, with significant terrain alterations in tow. The second half of the Minecraft 1.18 update also gave rise to a wide variety of biomes, including Frozen Peaks, Jagged Peaks, Dripstone Caves, Lush Caves, and the Snowy Slopes.
