New Ms. Marvel set photos reveal Iman Vellani’s titular heroine fleeing what appears to be drones in an action sequence for the series. The Disney+ title will mark the Marvel Cinematic Universe debut of Kamala Khan, a teenage Muslim Pakistani-American living in New Jersey who is a major Avengers fan, namely of Captain Marvel. One day, Kamala gains shape-shifting powers and finds herself struggling to fit in as she learns the extent of her abilities.

Development on Ms. Marvel was first announced ahead of the release of Captain Marvel, though its status as a Disney+ show wasn’t confirmed until mid-2019 with Loki alum Bisha K. Ali attached as head writer for the series. Casting would begin a year later as newcomer Iman Vellani landed the coveted titular role alongside Aramis Knight, Matt Lintz, Zenobia Shroff and Mohan Kapur. With Bad Boys for Life duo Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah leading the directing team, production on Ms. Marvel would begin in late 2020 and though initially concluding in mid-2021, the creatives are working on additional photography at the moment, which comes with an interesting surprise for MCU fans.

Those familiar with the MCU in recent years may recognize the apparent drone from the Ms. Marvel set photos as one used by Jake Gyllenhaal’s Mysterio in Spider-Man: Far From Home. Once a scientist specializing in holographic illusions at Stark Industries, Quentin Beck devised a plan with other disgraced Stark employees to get revenge for their dismissals. Mysterio’s plan ultimately backfires when Tom Holland’s Peter Parker regains control of the drones and uses them to kill Beck, though his partner William Ginter Riva utilizes footage from the drones to frame the webslinger as a murderer and expose his secret identity.

Given the drones were ultimately seized by the government at the end of Spider-Man: Far From Home, their appearance in the Ms. Marvel set photos does create an interesting question as to who is controlling the technology. With Riva having escaped at the end of the webslinging sequel, there is the possibility he is still in possession of some drones and conducting criminal activity that runs afoul of Vellani’s titular character. Only time will tell when Ms. Marvel premieres on Disney+ later this year.
