A new Delivery Express for The Sims 4 has added new Create-a-Sim items alongside a limited-time Scenario. Also called SDX, Sims Delivery Express drops are designed to add small increments of new content to The Sims 4 that don’t require an entire game update, instead being added to players’ games automatically. While the additions made by the Delivery Express system don’t compare to the amount of content included in Sims 4 DLC, they are a way for the game to receive small doses of free content, often including seasonal or cultural items.

Out for over seven years now, The Sims 4 has recently seen free items and gameplay elements added to the game in an effort to keep it fresh outside of paid DLC. Alongside the Sims Delivery Express system, these include the in-game challenges called Scenarios, which were introduced in November 2021. Scenarios place Sims in unique situations with set goals for players to complete, such as the “Unlucky Chef” Scenario where a Sim with a high chance of starting kitchen fires strives to become a world-famous chef, or the “Engaged in Conflict” Sims Scenario in which an argumentative couple must decide whether they will go through with their wedding.

Announced by The Sims on Twitter, the new Sims Delivery Express will introduce both a new Scenario and new Create-a-Sim items. The Sims team has collaborated with tattoo artists to bring four new designs to CAS, adding tattoos for the chest, back, and thigh. A new unisex sponge curl hairstyle has been included for adults, and a hairstyle from The Sims 4 Seasons had been made available for toddlers. Custom content creator Complex Sims, who previously collaborated with The Sims 4 team to release robes for the game, has designed durags and bonnets for children and toddlers, and has made the aforementioned robes available for them to wear. The new Sims 4 Scenario is entitled “Inspirational Mentor,” and focuses on an adult female Sim working to mentor a teen female Sim in a skill of the player’s choosing, while working to become BFFs with the mentee, max a skill, and write a skill book. A new piece of Brazilian artwork by art team Lano has also been added to Buy Mode.

This is the first time The Sims 4 has seen a new Scenario release in conjunction with a Delivery Express, introducing both items and gameplay at the same time. The “Inspirational Mentor” Scenario bears similarities to the Renaissance Sim aspiration and Super Parent aspiration, which focus around raising skills and helping younger Sims improve respectively, so it may feel familiar or even repetitive to some players. A recent focus on making The Sims 4 more culturally inclusive through SDXs can be seen in the new CAS items that largely center on Black hairstyles, although the overall presence of Black hairstyles in The Sims 4 still leaves much to be desired.

While the new Sims 4 Scenario may feel less creative than those previously released to some players, it will still appeal to many who enjoy skill-building and working to have their Sim form strong bonds with others. Sims Delivery Express drops are small by nature, and although the total amount of new items added to Create-A-Sim is not a significant one, it will hopefully further the goal of helping more players see themselves in-game. With the Sims 4 roadmap released at the beginning of 2022 now complete, it’s unknown what new releases players can expect for The Sims 4, but these Delivery Express drops and Scenarios are a fun way to keep giving fans new content to play with.
