Nickelodeon and eOne have revealed the title for the latest Transformers animated series alongside a first look at the show in a newly released trailer. The series was first revealed to be in production in 2020 by Hasbro. The upcoming series will air on Nickelodeon in the fall of  2022.

With the franchise approaching 28 years since it began, Transformers has been a key part of many generations’ childhood, as kids have followed the shapeshifting battles between the heroic Autobots and the evil Decepticons. Hailing from the distant planet of Cybertron, the bio-mechanical lifeforms’ war has reached Earth, and now both sides must take on vehicular disguises to fit in on this new world. Alongside films, comics, games, and the original toy line, Transformers animated series have helped keep the franchise in the eyes of the audience, with 26 series having aired to this date. And now following the conclusion of Netflix’s more fan-oriented Transformers: War for Cybertron series, Nickelodeon has fully revealed the newest show set to introduce the franchise to a new generation.

Revealed by Hasbro, Nickelodeon, and eOne, the new Transformers animated series is titled Transformers: Earthspark. The series was also revealed to be an action-comedy that will introduce new and existing fans to a new generation of Transformers born on Earth and the human family that helps care for them. With a central theme of exploring what it means to be a family, Transformers: Earthspark is a comedic, heartfelt, light-hearted series that focuses on the family building a bond with the new robots in disguise, alongside familiar fan-favorites like Optimus Prime and Bumblebee. The series is executive produced by Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles‘ Ant Ward and Dale Malinowski, alongside Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles‘ Ciro Nieli, and Transformers: Rescue Bots‘ Nicole Dubrik. Alongside Transformers: Earthspark, the Transformers will return to theatrically released animation in 2024. Currently set to release on July 19, 2024, the untitled Transformers animated movie will be helmed by Toy Story 4 director Josh Cooley. While it is unknown whether the animated film will tie into the live-action film franchise, it will follow the next installment of the franchise, Transformers: Rise of the Beasts in 2023. Set to relaunch a new era of the Transformers film franchise, Rise of the Beasts will follow the events of 2018’s Bumblebee and see the Autobots face three new factions of Cybertronians: the Maximals, Predacons, and Terrorcons. Paramount has promised that this would only be the start of a new trilogy, as 2 new films were confirmed to be in development by the studio.

While the film franchise seeks to adapt many of the stories fans know and love, Transformers: Earthspark promises to be a fresh take for a new generation. The series will introduce all-new characters and an interesting premise that will see audiences explore the world alongside its young characters. While iconic characters like Optimus Prime and other returning Transformers will make appearances, Transformers: Earthspark will take the franchise into a bold new future on television in Fall 2022.
